Through thoughtful interpretation and research, the book suggests that ancient seers used gods, sounds, and symbols as a sophisticated language to communicate universal laws and cosmic principles.

The book examines the symbolism of deities such as Ganesha, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Gayatri, and Durga, connecting their attributes and forms with ideas from cosmology, astronomy, philosophy, and humanity’s evolving relationship with the universe.

APD’s Resource Book on Accessibility in Educational Institutions unveiled at Purple Manthan 2026, marking 10 years of the RPwD Act
 

At the heart of the conclave was the launch of APD’s ‘Resource Book on Accessibility in Educational Institutions’, a first-of-its-kind, practice-oriented guide designed to help schools, colleges, and universities embed accessibility across infrastructure, digital systems, pedagogy, and campus life.
 

Developed by APD, the resource book distils over a decade of the organisation’s on-ground implementation experience, policy engagement, and institutional partnerships. It provides institutions with actionable frameworks, checklists, and design pathways to translate statutory mandates into measurable, everyday inclusion.
 

Launching the book, Mrs Manmeet Nanda, Additional Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), said, “The RPwD Act laid the legal foundation for accessibility, but its true impact depends on how consistently and thoughtfully it is implemented on the ground. The Step-Up League was designed to ensure that students who had not participated in earlier leagues (Legacy and Emerging) still had the opportunity to publish and qualify for the festival’s remaining stages. Many participants used this league to complete unfinished drafts, refine their stories, and formally publish their work - often in a matter of days.

Path Forward: State and National Leagues Begin

With the conclusion of the Step-Up League, all qualifying sub-leagues of SBWF 2025 are now complete. Students selected from the Legacy, Emerging, and Step-Up Leagues will now move forward to the State League, followed by the National Authors League.
 

The upcoming phases will evaluate student-authored books on a wider scale — combining jury assessments with metrics such as readership, reviews, and engagement.
 

By the end of this year’s festival, participation is expected to cross 1 million students, making SBWF 2025 one of the largest student writing initiatives globally.

This news follows the first casting announcement for Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions which included Golden Globe Award winner Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, Emmy, Golden Globe and BAFTA Award winner Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort, Academy Award winner and Emmy Award winner Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape, BAFTA Award nominee Michelle Gomez as Professor McGonagall, and Laurence Olivier Award and Critics Choice Award nominee Cush Jumbo OBE as the narrator. Frankie Treadaway, Max Lester, and Arabella Stanton will play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger respectively in audiobooks one, two, and three. Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan, and Nina Barker-Francis will assume the roles of the beloved trio (Harry, Ron, and Hermione respectively) beginning in audiobook four, carrying through to the epic conclusion.

Additional cast members will be announced this autumn. These brand-new productions of the original seven stories by J.K. Rowling will showcase the listening experiences as never heard before—offering immersive audio entertainment through high-quality sound design in Dolby Atmos, stunning scoring, captivating performances from A-list actors, original music, and real-world sound capture. Casting was completed in early 2025 and production is nearly wrapped with over 2,000 recording hours logged to date to create these complete, unabridged editions.

As per the report, the new wave of expansion is not driven by temporary demand overflow, but by long-term structural shifts in aspirations, affordability, and accessibility. Tier II cities like Raipur, Salem, Belagavi, Hosur, Jabalpur, Aurangabad, Tirunelveli, Siliguri, Baddi, Udaipur, and Warangal are emerging as the real engines of India’s next growth story.

Tier III cities like Ayodhya, Dharwad, Sangli, Haldwani, Ajmer, Barshi, Kharagpur, Nanded, Agartala, and Kollam have historically remained under the radar but are now stepping into the spotlight, building the next Rs. 10 lakh crore of India’s real estate economy.

Ashwinder R. Singh - Chairman of the CII Real Estate Committee (North), Vice Chairman of BCD Group, and Advisor to NAR India, states, “For decades, India’s real estate narrative revolved around the top 7–8 metro cities. But that story is being rewritten. What we’re witnessing is not just spillover from saturated metros; it’s a fundamental reshaping of the growth landscape. Cities once considered peripheral are now emerging as vibrant hubs for housing, employment, infrastructure, and investment.”

The report identifies this shift not as a cyclical deviation from the dominance of metros like Delhi, Mumbai, or Bengaluru, but as a deeper reordering of India’s urban development model. It pinpoints the specific growth corridors that exemplify this transformation.

Bhubaneswar is leading the way with walkable neighbourhoods rooted in smart city design and cultural context. Jabalpur and Gwalior are witnessing township-led growth spurred by improved highway networks and air connectivity. Cities like Salem and Tirunelveli are becoming health-tech magnets, following the lead of Coimbatore.

In central India, warehousing hubs are emerging in Raipur, Siliguri, and Belagavi, driven by their strategic locations and enhanced connectivity. Industrial corridors in Hosur, Aurangabad, and Pithampur are evolving into EV manufacturing zones, generating demand for both workforce and executive housing.

Even the knowledge suburbs of Chandigarh, such as Baddi, Barotiwala, and Derabassi, are transforming from industrial satellites into integrated living ecosystems. Meanwhile, cities like Lucknow and Ayodhya are undergoing a renaissance, fuelled by government investment, institutional development, and spiritual tourism.

One of the most powerful insights from Singh’s report is that infrastructure in these cities is leading development. Infrastructure in Tier-II and Tier-III cities is becoming the new imperative for Indian real estate, with expressways, regional airports, railways, and metro lines laying the groundwork for expansion. Corporates are entering early, drawn by cost advantages and access to local talent. Land remains both affordable and available, enabling large-scale, community-led developments. Rising household incomes, improved education, and digital reach are driving aspirations upward. Besides, local governments are offering faster approvals and policy support, making these cities more investor-friendly. The growing trend of reverse migration is further accelerating this shift, as people return home in search of a better quality of life.

In terms of strategy, the report encourages developers to enter early, focusing on plotted developments, affordable housing, and township models, while partnering with local players and ensuring timely delivery to build trust and value. Investors need to look beyond the herd, identifying locations where infrastructure aligns with policy intent, signalled by upcoming highways, GCCs, rail links, and institutional projects. Policymakers must treat these cities as testing grounds for reform, enabling faster digital approvals, promoting sustainable urban mobility, and incentivising ESG-led development for long-term impact.

India@2030 will not be defined solely by the skylines of Delhi, Mumbai, or Bengaluru. It will take shape in the quieter, determined rise of Tier II and III cities. This transformation is about more than just economic growth; it’s about achieving balance, enabling inclusion, and unlocking opportunity across geographies.

The MoU was formally signed at a ceremony held at the Constitution Club of India by Mr. Angelo George, CEO, Bisleri International, and Shri Yuvaraj Malik, Director, National Book Trust. The event was graced by Shri Kartikeya Sarabhai, Founder and Director, Centre for Environment Education, as the Chief Guest. The book is an adaptation of “Towards Responsible Use of Plastics,” previously published by Bisleri and CEE in eight Indian languages. The new edition will be developed by NBT, following a separate agreement granting the rights to adapt and use the original content. It will focus on responsible plastic usage, waste segregation, and circular economy principles.

To further promote awareness and use of recycled materials, Bisleri will install 10 recycled plastic benches at each NBT office across India. NBT will also provide complimentary kiosk space and branding opportunities for Bisleri at all its book fairs and events. Additionally, NBT book fairs will screen sustainability-themed films curated by Bisleri via dedicated television displays. Celebrating Blue Cross and its 60th anniversary, one cannot stop but applaud the achievements of the Sundaram family and all the others who have volunteered and worked for the Blue Cross of India, since its first registration in 1964. The most active animal welfare group in the country that has many firsts to its credit. The first of a new genre of animal protection groups  that were concerned with all animals, the one that pioneered some path breaking initiatives like the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme,  the first time in the world, where the sterilization of street dogs was put forward as a humane approach to control growing dog population, first in the world to begin interactive computer programmes as an alternative to dissection of animals in schools, and the first animal welfare group in India to get the Platinum Level certification for transparency from GuideStar India in 2013.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Chinny Krishna the co-founder of Blue Cross and the Praani Mitra awardee from the Indian government for his lifetime of animal service shared that running any organisation for 60 years was difficult; running an organisation in the animal welfare field, a Herculean task. Welcoming Mrs. Maneka Gandhi and thanking her for her presence, Dr. Krishna said, "Much of the work done wouldn't have been possible, but for the sympathetic listener in parliament, Mrs. Maneka Gandhi, who was able to understand what was done and being done, and her diligent follow ups with legislation on aspects of animal welfare."

Of course, it helped that both my parents were pilots - my mother, Usha Sundaram, was India's first woman pilot and as the pilots of the Mysore Maharajah's "luxury" aircraft VT AXX, had the honour and privilege of flying   Sardar Patel on his mission to unite the princely states to form the Indian Union.  Even today, we are fortunate in having a group of professionals who donate their time and efforts on a purely honorary basis to look after much of the administration and special projects like our adoptathons and the Great Indian Dog Show for Indies and non-pedigrees. Padamjeet Sehrawat's Inspiring Poetry Collection 'Udaan' Launched in Delhi

Swachhta Samvaad Unveiled by Students
 

Over 3,000 students participated in the campaign, which began with a city-wide essay competition on cleanliness practices and challenges. Following this, the selected 43 students participated in a creative writing workshop, under the guidance of Deepali Raina, Founder of Potli Productions. The workshop, focused on storytelling and effective communication, helped students craft the narratives that are encapsulated in the Swachhta Samvaad.
 

The book features a wide range of topics covering various aspects of cleanliness and waste management. In the "Expressions" section, students write about reducing landfills, the philosophy of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle," and innovative ways to turn waste into resources through bio-methanation. Creative contributions like poems and stories bring these themes to life, with pieces such as "Festivals and New Clothes," which explores the concept of reuse, and "The Dustbin Diaries," a narrative focused on waste segregation.
 

One of the highlights is the graphic novel Toxic Doom, which engages readers with environmental themes. The "Our City" section offers insights into Jamshedpur’s waste management landscape, interviews with local safai karmachari and outlines the roles of different stakeholders in keeping the city clean. Practical solutions and everyday habits for promoting cleanliness are also featured in the "Insights" section, followed by an interactive "Fun Time" section with fill-in-the-blank activities, riddles, and a game called "Choose the Right Dustbin."

At the outset, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge, Supreme Court of India shared an interesting perspective on the transfers of judges from one High Court to another. According to him, transfer of judges is a necessity & an important cog in the wheel in the administration of Justice, although with room for considerable improvement.

As a vital suggestion, the Hon’ble Judge felt that the Judges may be informed in advance about their impending transfer with some heads up so that the same can be taken in stride well in time.

As an instance, his own transfer from Guwahati High Court to Bombay High Court leaving a tremendous impact on his progression as a judge, as it had helped him becoming an All-India Judge from a Provincial Judge.

He further advised, based on his personal experience in order to become a better judge, one ought to move out of his/her comfort zone, and therefore, should be willing to move to a different High Court.

With the above brief remarks, he delivered his theme address on “Taxpayers' Expectations vis-a-vis Revenue: Judicial Intervention - Balancing the Scales” and highlighting the complexity in the language of tax laws and felt that it was the primary reason behind the surge in tax litigation. In his theme address, the Role of Standing Counsel(s) was also highlighted and it was emphasized that they not only represent the Revenue, but they also need to ensure that there is no miscarriage of justice.

Hon’ble Justice Bhuyan underscored the book for its detailed observations on the important topics ranging from money laundering, benami transactions, demonetization, crypto currency, facets of GST, visualization of the author’s perspective of the Indian Economy in 2047.

Hon’ble Justice Bhuyan opined that the book aptly reflects the hard work of Author, which will prove to be a useful guide for both Bar and Bench and remarked that Dr. Chawla is not only an astute lawyer but also a serious observer of Tax, Business & Commercial Laws.

In his address, Justice Bhuyan reflected into history and apprised as to how the mutiny of 1857 ultimately led to the eventual enactment of the present Income Tax Act. He reiterated that Article 265 of the Constitution of India is the flag post of tax laws in India. The Hon’ble Judge also raised concerns on the pending tax litigation ranging across Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (“ITAT”), High Courts & Supreme Court.

Justice Bhuyan touched upon an interesting topic on co-relation between Economic Development & Rise in (Tax) Litigation. To elucidate the same, he cited an article titled “LITIGATION AS A MEASURE OF WELL – BEING”, which suggests that that higher litigation rates are not necessarily the evidence of an overly litigious society or a drain on the economy. In fact, they can be a natural consequence of economic development and improved human well-being.

Justice Bhuyan concluded by underlining that while courts need to respect the rights of the assessees, simultaneously, the judiciary also has to maintain a delicate balance between taxpayers’ expectations and the Government’s legitimate revenue generation. Since taxation is an important source of revenue for the nation, one cannot turn a blind eye to the same.

Hon’ble Mr. R. Venkataramani, Attorney General for India (“AG”), by delivering his Keynote address, “Administration of Justice: Duty of the State” remarked that writing & sharing are twin elements of a book launch & commended the author for his industrious work. It was further stated by the AG that law as a protective phenomenon could not have happened without the idea of the constitution. Quoting ‘No man is an island’ by John Donne, the AG emphasized that liberty & freedom are non-negotiables. AG further expressed that an idea is an asset, and it is intrinsically linked with individual liberty, which continues to play a pivotal role in the formulation of policy process.

The Hon’ble AG mentioned that the book navigates through rigors of ever-evolving tax landscape, with useful insights on burgeoning levels of Tax Litigation plaguing the administration of justice.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Yashwant Varma, Judge, High Court of Delhi, Guest of Honour, in his special address noted that Dr. Chawla with his years of experience has managed to establish himself as a leading practitioner in International Tax & allied issues, Exchange Control, Prevention of Money Laundering Act (“PMLA”), etc.

Hon’ble Justice Varma went on to narrate that the level of sincerity, which the author exhibits as an advocate, always reflects in his work.

He commented that the book deals with complicated tax legal landscape and believed that the observations made by the author on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (“BEPS”) to act as a guiding light for legal practitioners and policy makers.

Justice Varma congratulated Dr. Chawla for succinctly capturing the complexities of interplay between National Sovereignty and International Taxation & praised the brilliant analysis. 

Dr. Manoj Kumar, Addl. Secretary, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, shed light on the cardinal exercise of drafting of laws by the legislature & emphasized on the streamlining of drafting process. Dr. Kumar also urged the audience to assist the lawmakers by giving their valuable inputs whenever any draft is circulated for inviting public comments and highlighted that the statutes must be in simple language and, in turn, the same shall help in making Bharat a more resilient & vibrant democracy.

The Welcome Address and the Opening Remarks of the Book Release event was delivered by Dr. Lalit Bhasin, an eminent figure in the field of law, who is the President of the Society of Indian Law Firms and observed that the book helps demystifying the rigmarole of tax laws.

The launch was celebrated with two distinguished events, on September 13, 2024, at the Oxford Bookstore in Connaught Place, and on September 22, 2024, at the Kunzum Books Art Cafe in Greater Kailash. These occasions attracted a vibrant and diverse mix of media professionals, corporate leaders, influencers, and literary enthusiasts, all eagerly engaging with the transformative themes presented in Ms. Grover’s book. At Group 108, under the visionary leadership of both Managing Directors, Dr. Amish Bhutani and Mr. Sanchit Bhutani, the organization holds the principles of self-love, personal growth, and community well-being at its core. 

Dr. Amish Bhutani, with his medical background, brings a deep understanding of holistic well-being, which he extends to both his employees and the larger community. Lyrics poetry the book to read

His book Lyric Poetry takes you through a journey of understanding the strength and lyricism that can be achieved with the written word without music, along with the importance and beauty of this form of poetry. Prof. Frank starts with a discussion of the meaning of lyric poetry; he then goes into its origins and evolution through time where lyric poets pay homage or umbrage to love, death, life, God and war.

This published version of the book ‘Lyric Poetry’ by Prof. Frank D’Souza has been a labour of love from me, says his daughter Daphne D’Souza PIllai.

“My dad entrusted the publication of the book to me before he passed away in the year 1986. He was the recipient of a University Grants Commission award in the humanities in the late 1970’s and undertook research on lyric poetry and its origins, nature and characteristics."

Says Dr. Daphne, “Prof. Frank’s manuscripts were found written in his own handwriting, which could be deciphered by very few people known to him. To add to this, a couple of chapters had verses in the Greek and Latin versions. I was able to track most of these lyric verses for authenticity using modern research methods. Some of the manuscript pages were missing, and I had to go through a suitcase full of his handwritten notes to figure out the missing links and bring continuity to his writing."

“My father lived during a time when there was no internet freely available, he had to rely entirely on the treasure house of books on lyric poetry, some of which may no longer be available to the public. I have tried my best to retrieve the bibliography as mentioned in the manuscripts: the name of the author, title of the book and the name and year of publication. The publication year was left out whenever I was unable to find this information."

“The putting together of this book to fulfil my obligation to my dad has taken me around six years. I worked during the pandemic specially during the night hours to read his manuscript, interpret his thinking and type them on my notepad. This exercise took me on an expedition to a beautiful lyrical world as I had to delve into the lyric origins just like my father did and relive the lyric arts from Greek times to modern times." said Dr. Daphne. The publication of this book is my tribute to Dad.

Grand Daughter Minerva Pillai says, “When I was asked to write the foreword to this book, I joked about how I would start it by talking about how Catholic guilt was a powerful thing. You see, the author of this book, my grandfather Joseph Frank D’souza passed away in 1986. One of my grandfather’s last requests to his daughter (my mother) Dr. Daphne Pillai was to publish this book. Unfortunately, this was put on the back burner while she raised her 3 infant children, got her PhD in English Literature and held esteemed posts at a variety of academic institutions and non-profits etc. While a lot of the manuscript that was written by him were eaten away with time, they came back into the spotlight in the last few years. The era of Covid gave us all a new appreciation for the things that are important to us before we meet our Maker (and parents) when it is our time. This put my mother into high gear out of fear that when she meets her father at the pearly gates, he would frown at her for ignoring his life’s work. Thus, the Catholic guilt part."

But in reality, this book is an expression of love-love of a daughter for her father and love of a teacher for his subject- in this case the subject being lyric poetry. As will be discussed in the editorial, this book was recreated in the style as was found in Prof. Frank’s notes to fully recreate his thoughts and feelings about the subject.

Prof. Frank, as he was known, was born on July 24, 1917. Goan in origin, he lived in the community of Dadar in Mumbai, India with his wife Cecilia and three daughters Gloria, Daphne and Freda. He began his career in 1938 as a Fellow in St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai soon after receiving his bachelor’s degree and the prestigious Ellis prize in English Literature from the University of Mumbai. He got his Master’s Degree from the University of Mumbai, topping his class in April 1941.

Dr. K.M. Vasudevan Pillai, Founder of the Pillai Group of institutions and a student of Prof. Frank, recognised the significance of this work on lyric poetry as a valuable contribution to literary scholarship and was instrumental in getting it published.

At the age of 28, Dr. Priyanka’s life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. 'Redlight' serves as a historical testament to human tragedy. The author has spread all the colours of human existence in this short but poignant story. The main character of the story sees ‘Mulago Hospital’ at Kampala’s famous jam-packed red light as a place of faith, sacrifice, and dedication towards the freedom fighters. 

The hero of the story, who has received police training, keeps turning his attention to the inconsistencies in the African society, far away from India, while simultaneously connecting it with the values and culture of Indian society. He also gets excited after finding the company of non-resident Indians and the ancient Ganesh temple near his residence. He also sees the beautiful blend of tradition and modernity, dazzling nightclubs, and people dying from malaria that has been otherwise eradicated. The hero's favourite subject is the exploration of the universal social elements of India and Uganda. The story also introduces us to the powerful campaign of Burma's famous Prime Minister U Shaw against British rule during the Second World War and the poignant story of his being made a prisoner of war.

In the middle of the story, the hero's daily stop at the traffic red light to watch the hustle and bustle of the local goods market set up at the crossroads, just like in India, becomes his favourite way of life. While the enjoyment of the youthful appearance of the attractive young woman from Kampala, burdened by the basket of juicy mangoes at the red light, reflects the innate desire of the male element, the inquiring about her health and the regret over the habit of haggling over the price of the basket of mangoes is the manifestation of the noblest form of human values.

Through his story, Keshav made 'Mulago Hospital' a subject of historical importance which became a metaphor in world fiction. This hospital is like the famous 'cemetery' of Paris, filled with the graves of world-famous thinkers, philosophers, and agitators along with the dictators of the French Revolution. During the Second World War, forty-seven prisoners of war brought from Malta by the British oppressive power were kept in 'Bambo Barracks' in Uganda, where they fell victim to malaria and ultimately sacrificed their lives at 'Mulago Hospital'. The ‘Red Light’ story, through the medium of the hospital, forces people from India to Africa to remember the sacrifices of their ancestors who were freedom fighters and have a sense of devotion towards them.

Apart from this, in the story Golki Frame Ke Chashma, all the old things of Bettiah city revolve like a cinema reel. The reason behind the establishment of Maharani Janaki Kunwar College has been depicted wonderfully. George Orwell, Prakash Jha, and Manoj Bajpayee have also been depicted in the same story in a flow of emotions. Even now the people of that city are not aware of this. While reading it, it felt as if the literature of an established author was being read. Faisla and Khilona are beautifully woven together depicting women's power.

There is a frank and unmatched description of Prayag in Kalpavas. Every person who belongs to that era must read this book. He will definitely consider himself a character in this book.
