The film has been garnering international acclaim, most notably winning two prestigious awards at the Seoul Global Movie Awards 2025 in South Korea - Best Film of Asia and Best Director of Asia - making it the first Indian film to achieve this distinction. Additionally, lead actress Avneet Kaur won the Most Promising Performer (Female) award at the Iconic Gold Awards 2026 held in Mumbai, in recognition of her outstanding performance in the film.
 

The successful screening in Thimphu highlights cinema as an effective and meaningful medium for further enhancing the already strong and unique ties between India and Bhutan.

Based on the life of Dr. Hemraj Bhai Shah, founder of the Maharashtra–Gujarati Mandal, the documentary earned widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics. The festival featured participation from filmmakers representing over sixty countries, making the recognition particularly significant.

Dr. Shah’s life reflects an inspiring journey from the deserts of Kutch to Mumbai, where he made notable contributions across social service, education, journalism, and public life.

The film has been co-directed by Saraswatichandra Acharya. Additionally, a stage play titled “Hemudada,” inspired by Dr. Shah’s life, is set to be staged soon. Written by Vasant Mara and Kavan Savla, the production will be performed five times over the next two months. The high-level international conference brought together Vietnam’s top leadership and global stakeholders, including H.E. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam; Mr. Ho An Phong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Chairman of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT); Ambassadors and Diplomats from Russia, Japan, South Korea and Thailand, Senior Tourism Leaders, Policymakers and leading International and Vietnamese media.

It is an intimate and unique documentary in which the Dalai Lama speaks directly to the camera about what he calls the source of happiness - inner peace, and shares practical wisdom for dealing with the challenges of this century and the controversy surrounding the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama. The documentary also shows the Dalai Lama's early life, including rare archival material documenting his journey as Tenzin Gyatso.
 

American actor Richard Gere, a long-time follower of the Dalai Lama, served as executive producer and said it was a blessing to be involved in this documentary about love and compassion. With the support of private Swiss funds, Wisdom of Happiness was shot by photographer Manuel Bauer. Austrian sales company Autlook Filmsales is responsible for global sales. The film premiered at the Zurich Film Festival in October 2024 and was selected for the Dharamshala International Film Festival in India and the DocPoint Documentary Film Festival in Helsinki, Finland.

Ram Film Factory has an exciting slate of three upcoming projects. One has completed pre-production, while another has its script ready to go. She further added that Ram Film Factory is dedicated to producing meaningful films, guided by the strength of stories.”Our second film is already in pre-production and will commence shoot in January 2025, and the script for a third movie is finalised. Our vision is to create 10 films over the next five years.”

Ms. Meenakshi’s passion for the film industry stems from her father-in-law, Mr. K. Govindan, who had a long-standing career as a costume designer, contributing to over 100 films. Ram Film Factory was established following his passing in 2022, to fulfill his long-held wish to get into film production. “My father-in-law began his career as costumer and went on to design costumes for many leading actors and actress, for leading production houses in Tamilnadu during the span of 1980 to 2001. In 1979 he got into production of a movie titled Nadhi Oram Pootha Malar casting Mr. Sivachandiran, Ms. Vadivukkarasi along with Mr. Isari Velan. However, he couldn’t realise his vision as the movie was not release due to unforeseen circumstances,” she mentioned.

She brings over 25 years of corporate experience, having served as the global head of corporate communications for Ashok Leyland. Her corporate tenure is interspersed with two entrepreneurial ventures, as she launched an outdoor advertising agency and a PR consultancy firm. To upgrade her knowledge and to quell her thirst for gaining knowledge in new areas that would add to her passion for exploring new ventures, in 2022, she attended the Senior Executive Leadership Programme at Harvard Business School. 

Before getting into the film industry, Ms. Meenakshi launched The Children Mail, a magazine exclusively for children, in 2017. A brain-child of Ms. Meenakshi, the magazine was conceptualised with the intent to wean children away from gadgets, and nurture the habit of reading. To encourage the same, there were inspiring interviews of achievers from different walks of life like Dr, Kiran Kumar former chairman ISRO; Dr. K Sivan former chairman of ISRO; Dr. Achutha Samantha Of KISS, Odisha; who excelled through hard work and achieved greatness in their fields from humble beginnings. MAAC, a premiere institute and a pioneer in high-end 3D animation Gaming & VFX training, organized “100 Hours” - a Tech-Challenge to make Animated Movies and Mobile Filmmaking for the students of MAAC, pan India. The theme for this Tech-Challenge for the both the categories was “Kindness: Small Acts, Big Impact”, which commenced on 27^th March 2024 and concluded in the evening of 31^st March 2024. The event comprised a creative movie-making marathon where students relentlessly worked in teams and created 30 seconds of animated short movies and, 60 seconds of mobile filmmaking using their IOS/androids uninterruptedly for 100 hours (i.e. approx. 4.2 days without a break).
 

MAAC 100 Hours-2: MAAC students all-ready for the 100 Hours Creative Marathon

During the event the participating students received 1400 man-hours of expert guidance during the filmmaking process and hands-on experience on a production pipeline from start to end including pre-production, production, and post-production in 3D Animation. As part of this Creative filmmaking Marathon which lasted 100 Hours, students got to witness a one-of-a-kind experience working towards an output of an animated/mobile-made short film. The mobile film-making category was introduced for, the second time this year considering the significant consumption of content in the form of reels and short films by the youth.

The tech challenge saw high participation, with over 180+ teams (5 students per team) who created 180+ animated short films & Mobile short films. This means, nearly 900+ students (90000 man-hours) collectively created over 9000 seconds of films in 100 hours. (Students created 3000 seconds of Animation short films and 6000 seconds of short films in mobile filmmaking). The design of this tech challenge is based on the 360 Degree Skills Advantage principle of MAAC which puts student’s skills & talent to test and evaluates their preparedness for jobs in the industry. A student through this challenge gets to experience a real-life work scenario and monitor progress in line with the time given to complete the task while using various relevant software and back-end support extended by the centres. The challenge also gives them a hands-on experience of working in a professional studio-like environment making them highly skilled and workforce-ready from day one.

Besides Savitha, the film also features the acclaimed actor Rupesh Tillu, known for his roles in "Ship of Theseus" and "Ophelia," in a never-before-seen avatar. The film is being praised for its stunning visuals and emotional depth and is expected to captivate the audiences with its unique blend of storytelling and visual artistry.

In 2012, Bharatanatyam danseuse Savitha Sastry and her writer husband AK Srikanth stunned the world of classical Indian dance with their thematic presentation ‘Soul Cages’. The stage presentation was the outcome of an attempt to use classical dance to tell a novel story not based on religion or mythology, and therefore evangelize the art form amongst the uninitiated and the disinterested. While the couple had embarked on this project in true ‘do or-die’ fashion, with a resolution that if this didn’t work, they would go back to their lives and give up art - it ended up changing their life; the show was an astounding hit which went on to play in 150 venues across 14 countries.

Over the last 12 years, the couple has moved far ahead with no less than fourteen productions to their name – mostly in the arena of short films with a strong base of Bharatanatyam as the subtext. While they have explored intense subjects in their earlier films like ‘Slow Rivers’ (with thespian Ashish Vidyarthi) and ‘Ghost of the Lighthouse’ (also starring Jamie Alter), one project that they did not revisit was the one that started it all – Soul Cages. “That is because it was difficult to bring as a concept to film'' explains writer Srikanth. “On stage, Savitha played all the characters, against a bare stage, and the unfolding of the drama had the audiences become a part of what they could not see but imagine. But on screen, it was a different ball game altogether”. But when it did get written, it was a different story from the one presented in 2012, but with an identical theme and core.

According to Savitha Sastry, “The 2012 stage production was considered a landmark in the history of Bharatanatyam by critics and ‘vidwans’. This presentation on film is a different story, but connected to the original by an umbilical. It is a sense of deja vu for us.”

Rohit Bose Roy expressed, "This film is special to me as it marks my portrayal of the central character. It's my first experience working on a film of this genre and almost the entire film was shot using VFX. Many of my scenes involve delivering dialogues in thin air. My character's name is Hari Singh, and if you reverse it, it spells IraH. I developed an app named IraH that can recreate anything. The film revolves around what could happen if this app falls into the wrong hands."

He further added, "April 5th is my birthday, and releasing the film on April 4th is the best birthday gift from director Sam Bhattacharjee. The film has its backdrop in AI, but it incorporates elements of romance, drama, suspense, and music. The suspense in the film is phenomenal. The shooting experience in London was unforgettable. Karishma Kotak is an excellent actress, and working with her was an amazing experience."

Director Sam Bhattacharjee stated, "We live in an era of technology. No one fights with guns anymore; instead, they fight with technology. Today, technology and data have become paramount. Our film revolves around the revolution of AI in data usage. I first pitched this idea to Rohit Bose Roy, and I'm glad he agreed to play this role. We've worked on IRAH's VFX for three years."

When he was only 14 years old, his father passed away, and after that, hearing about his struggles and work, I decided to make a film about him. In this film, we have shown Baba's journey from a tribal area to becoming a cabinet minister."

Minister Dharmaraobaba Atram said, "I got a new life. I drank the water of the drains, returned alive from the clutches of Naxalites, didn't know if I would come back alive from there or not." This entire journey is shown in this film."

Bhutiani and Yadav emphasised the need for a supportive distribution model in India, showcasing a commitment to regional cinema. Despite challenges, both filmmakers expressed optimism for the future of independent cinema at the ongoing BVFF in Guwahati. Leena Yadav highlighted struggles, even with an Oscar-winning star, for her upcoming film "Cowgirl's Last Ride".

Ronnie Lahiri, an acclaimed Hindi film producer of movies like Vicky Donor and Piku, also participated in a panel discussion at the 8th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival. Lahiri emphasised that a blockbuster isn't just about star power but capturing a universal essence. The 8th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) marked a historic moment with the inaugural Prime Pitch session in Northeast India. In collaboration with Amazon Prime Video, the session received 47 diverse pitches, showcasing the creative depth of the region. Twelve shortlisted ideas were presented to Amazon Prime executives, fostering local storytelling and cinematic talent. Amazon's Sahira Nair praised BVFF for its role in connecting filmmakers and providing exposure to local talent. Krishna D.K. and Suman Kumar, known for their successful web series like The Family Man, participated in a panel discussion on 'Mastering the Evolving Landscape of Web-Series' at BVFF. Dr. Milind Damle continued the workshop on 'Introduction to Filmmaking,' offering comprehensive insights into various facets of film production.

Day 3 highlighted cinema's ability to transport audiences, spark meaningful conversations, and inspire creativity. Diverse offerings and insights from industry experts left the audience enriched and eager for more.

The festival also hosted acclaimed filmmaker Prakash Jha, who conducted an illuminating masterclass, sharing insights into his cinematic journey and philosophy. Originating from Bihar, Jha discussed his commitment to portraying societal narratives, recalling the ban on his documentary "Faces After the Storm". Emphasising cinema's interdisciplinary nature, he described it as an assimilation of sciences and arts. Jha addressed challenges in socio-political filmmaking, stressing the enduring power of dialogue and artistic expression. By highlighting collaborative filmmaking, he encouraged diverse perspectives. The masterclass celebrated the continuous evolution of films, inspiring attendees to engage in impactful storytelling.

The festival concluded with a tribute to late actor Jayanta Das and showcased impactful films like "Follower" and "Nine Hills One Valley", addressing societal and regional challenges. The closing ceremony honoured actress Mridula Baruah with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Awards were presented for Best Short Film, Best Documentary Film, Best Director, and Best Feature Film. The festival's expansion included separate competitions for feature and documentary films, fostering diversity. BVFF ended with a panel discussion and the screening of "Footprints on Water," promising future cinematic enrichments.

Taking the stage, Festival Director Tanushree Hazarika delivered a passionate speech, outlining the vision and significance of BVFF as a platform for diverse and powerful storytelling which seeks to empower and provide exposure to the filmmakers of Northeast India.

We've pushed the boundaries, not just geographically, but in the very essence of what a film festival can be. Although, the COVID-19 pandemic had challeneged us in different ways, the motivation from friends and fans of the festival inspired us to make a comeback. In this edition of BVFF, you’ll find narratives from every corner of India, each film different from the other. From the snow-capped peaks of Ladakh to the West Coast of Goa and Karnataka, these films echo the rhythm of our diverse nation,” said Tanushree Hazarika, Festival Director, BVFF.
 

“Moreover, BVFF isn't just about geographic expanse; it's also about depth. We're diving into the wellspring of unheard voices, showcasing stories that whisper and shout from the margins. There are films by and about women, and films on indigenous communities, and cultures and tradtions of Northeast India. These are the narratives that make us see the world through new lenses. And beyond the screen, we're building a community. A vibrant ecosystem where filmmakers, actors, critics, and dreamers collide, sparking collaborations and conversations. A special highlight of the ceremony was the segment, where the festival's core team, namely, Pallavi Chumki Barua, film producer and legal practitioner, Bjorn Deniese, director, Tattva Creations Private Limited, Karma Paljor, senior journalist and editor in chief, East Mojo and Samujjal Kashyap, National Award winning filmmaker, shared their experiences and dedication in bringing BVFF to life this year.

“BVFF is not just a festival; it's a movement. A movement for celebrating the power of stories to transcend borders, fuel empathy, and illuminate the soul. “This time the BVFF is more about experiencing films than it is about just seeing them. We have installed state-of-the-art projection systems that comply with international projection requirements. We have also given special attention to sound since watching films on its own cannot provide a satisfying cinematic experience. The development of an emotional connection requires the establishment of a high-quality audio and visual ecology. Additionally, this time around, the festival will have an additional screen, allowing us to screen more films and host more concurrent workshops and discussions. Thus, something may be found for everyone,” said Filmmaker Samujjal Kashyap, Technical Head, BVFF.

Adding further gravitas to the occasion, Leena Yadav, renowned filmmaker, Ronnie Lahiri, film producer, Sanjay Bhutiani, film producer, Aimee Baruah, National Award winning filmmaker and actor, Ranjit Borthakur, Indian bussinessman from Assam, Executive Chairman of Royal Multisport Pvt. Soon, their work will be showcased at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, a testament to their growing talent. Also speaking on the importance of mother tounge and film festivals, Aimee Baruah, National Award winning Actor-director said, "While attending the Cannes Film Festival, I witnessed a strong preference for the French language among the local filmmakers and audiences. This starkly contrasts with our tendency to give less importance to our own diverse languages. Therefore, it's truly commendable that we celebrate our languages and the burgeoning film scene in this region. Organizing film festivals is no easy feat, and immense credit goes to Tanushree Hazarika for her dedication and efforts in making this event possible."

Along with the mentioned list of film personalities and professionals above, BVFF 2023 will be also graced by esteemed personalities such as Tanuja Chandra, Leena Yadav, Adil Hussain, Ronnie Lahiri, Harshad Nalawade, Miransha Naik, Paban Haobam Kumar, Sanjay Bhutiani, among others who will take part in the interactive sessions and panel discussions.

BVFF to give independent filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their work at BVFF

Following film screenings, interactive Q&A sessions will be held, inviting viewers to express their thoughts, ask questions, and directly interact with the filmmakers. This will provide an opportunity for the audiences to engage with the filmmakers in a meaningful dialogue beyond the screen. Meanwhile, the panel discussions will tackle topics like: challenges of producing and marketing independent films, strategies for navigating the film festival circuit, decoding the elements of a blockbuster film, and charting the path forward for Assamese cinema and its potential for growth.

“After successfully organizing seven editions of the festival, we are thrilled to announce the return of the 8th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) after a three-year hiatus. Although we were unable to organize the festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the overwhelming requests and support from our fans and film enthusiasts motivated us to overcome numerous challenges and bring back this beloved event,” said the festival director ,Tanushree Hazarika.

Films launched at BVFF

This year's festival promises to captivate audiences with a selection of highly anticipated films, including the award-winning ‘Footprints on Water’ starring Adil Hussain and directed by Nathalia Syam. The festival aims to cater to the growing filmmaking scene in the Northeast and provide a platform for showcasing local talent and creativity.

“The core objective of BVFF remains unchanged which is to promote and celebrate the creative talent of the Northeast region of India. We envision this festival as a community-building exercise, bringing together filmmakers from across India, film students, professionals, and individuals passionate about cinema under one roof. We are confident that this year's BVFF will once again deliver an unforgettable experience for all attendees, fostering connections, and showcasing the vibrant filmmaking landscape of the Northeast,” added the director of the festival.

This year, BVFF has received a total of 200 plus film submissions, with approximate 120 originating from the Northeast. It includes films from ten different languages of India including Assamese. The festival will be graced by esteemed personalities such as Prakash Jha, Krishna DK, Tanuja Chandra, Leena Yadav, Adil Hussain, Ronnie Lahiri, Harshad Nalawade, Miransha Naik, Paban Haobam Kumar, Ketki Pandit, Sanjay Bhutiani, among others.

“Organizing this festival has been a month of intense hard work and dedication. We have received an overwhelming response of almost 200 film entries, including those from the competition section which has expanded from the original short film contest to two additional categories in the documentary and feature film section. The best entries from each section will be showcased at the festival in addition to special festival screenings, India Premiers and a restored and much loved classic by the legendary Satyajit Ray. We have invited industry professionals like Prakash Jha, Krishna DK, and Ketki Pandit to conduct master classes and share their insights with aspiring filmmakers. Additionally, there will be a workshop conducted by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), panel discussions, interactive sessions, and much more,” said Pallavi Chumki Barua, Programming Director, BVFF.

BVFF 2023 will feature 30 selected movies from the over 200 entries received, panel discussions, fireside chats, master classes, and a workshop on Introduction to Filmmaking conducted in association with the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. The eminent jury includes Rita Meher, Co-founder & Executive Director of Tasveer; Murtaza Ali Khan, independent film critic and journalist; Utpal Datta, acclaimed author, filmmaker, and critic; and Dr. Asha Kuthari Chaudhuri, Professor and Director of the Centre for Performing Arts and Culture at Gauhati University.

“This year's festival promises to be even bigger and better than ever before! Moving to Jyoti Chitraban, Kahilipara, the hub of filmmaking in Assam, brings us closer to the industry. The exciting lineup of films, coupled with master classes and workshops, offers something for everyone,” said Samujjal Kashyap, Technical Director, BVFF.

“Compared to the previous location at Pragjyoti ITA Cultural Centre, we've expanded significantly. This time multiple venues will host screenings, workshops, and interactive sessions simultaneously, ensuring a comfortable and engaging environment for all attendees. Additionally, for the projection of the films we are going with DCP projection, which is provided by Scrabble, and high standards are also maintained for the documentary and short films screenings. This ensures both audience enjoyment and filmmaker satisfaction, knowing their work is being presented with quality standards,” he added.

In a groundbreaking move, BVFF has already announced its collaboration with Amazon Prime Video, allowing filmmakers to present their pitches directly to the leading OTT platform. This unprecedented opportunity has the potential to redefine the landscape for independent filmmakers, empowering them and elevating the standards of filmmaking while opening doors within the industry.

The Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) has established itself as one of the beloved platforms for cinema in Northeast India, contributing significantly to the region's filmmaking movement. The four awards were 'Best Film produced by Trivikrama Saplya', 'Best  Actress Smitha (Niveditya)', 'Best Background Song sung by Sadhana Sargam', 'Best Director Sudheer Attavar' were given awards. Actor Rakesh Adiga, who was a part of the film, was nominated for Best Actor.

Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bias honoured lyricist Sameer Anjaan with the Best lyricist Award and Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on musician Agam Kumar Nigam.

More than 50 films from around the world participated in the festival. For the awards category, America's Out of the State - A Gothic Romance, Woman in the Maze, Chile's Alma, Spain's Digny Dad, Lithuania's Purga, Hong Kong's Graduation, Indian films like Titu Ambani, Ogo Bideshini were in competition for the awards.

Padamshri Anup Jalota, Annjaan Srivatsav, Arun Govil, and singer Dr. Jaspinder Narula were the judges at the festival.

Mrityorma has also been selected for International film festivals in Manchester and Kenya. Sudheer Attavar said, "I am thankful to the judges and organisers of the festival to recognise our efforts and present our team with the award. I also thank the producer of the film for putting trust in our work. We are happy and humbled."

On this occasion, Krishna Jaiswal who plays the role of Ramakrishna Paramhans, Arun Bakshi who plays the role of Ramanand Rai, Piyush Suhane as Ramkumar, Tanmay Pareek as Shiva, Kirti Adarkar,Master prateek and Mahesh Dubey as Rani Rasmani were also present.

This serial, being produced under the banner of Shri Hariom Films, MM Movies and Mantra Ad World Pvt. Ltd. Screenplay and Dialogue of the serial is written by Krishna Mishra ,Prabudha Saurabh and Raman raghuvanshi.

Chief Guest Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra said, "Krishna Mishra has organized the event of poster launch of this show. Krishna Mishra and his team did a lot of research on how Swami Vivekanand ji's childhood was, what he did in his youth and they will present his ideas and thoughts through the show."

Swami Vivekanand was truly an amazing talent. He used to share with the youth that they must keep their health good, he believed that only a healthy body can have a healthy mind and brain and can think new thoughts. Today there is a need for a leader like Swami Vivekanand. We hope that Swami Vivekanand's message will reach people through this serial. The first poster of the serial is impressive and the glimpses shown were also amazing.

Krishna Mishra, the writer, producer and director became emotional when he came on stage to speak a few words and expressed his gratitude to Governor Kalraj Mishra for his support. Talking to the media, Krishna Mishra said, "The Great Monk Swami Vivekanand' will inspire the youth to move forward in life. This serial based on the life philosophy of Swami Vivekanand will inspire the new generation. He died at the age of just 39, but even at that age, he has left behind the magic of his words to inspire people."
