This milestone marks the world’s first instance of a classification society approving a fully indigenous engine health monitoring solution, positioning India at the forefront of data-driven, sustainable, and cost-efficient maritime operations.

As part of the collaboration, the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has awarded Type Approval Certification to Neptunus for its VIB 360 – Engine Condition Monitoring System and Torque Sense SHAPOLI, marking the world’s first instance of indigenously developed, IRS-certified condition-monitoring technologies for marine diesel engines and propulsion systems.

The certification demonstrates India’s capability to deliver globally compliant, export-ready maritime solutions built entirely at home. Traditionally, ship maintenance followed fixed OEM intervals, conservative and costly. With VIB 360, fleets shift to Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM), thereby eliminating unplanned downtime, enhancing reliability, reducing maintenance costs by up to 30% (based on previous experience), optimizing fuel efficiency, and thus reducing emissions. This shift from time-based to data-driven maintenance represents a foundational step in India’s Digital Maritime Vision; enhancing operational reliability, reducing downtime, and cutting carbon emissions through precision diagnostics.

Under the MoU, IRS and Neptunus will jointly develop frameworks and standards for Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) to help the maritime industry transition from traditional, time-based maintenance to real-time, data-led maintenance practices. The collaboration aims to enhance operational reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and contribute to India’s Green Shipping and Digital Maritime Vision.

Square Port Shipyard Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Hazoor Multi Projects Limited, has secured an order from a shipping company located in the United Kingdom. The all-important steel cutting ceremony, which marks the initiation of the ship building activity was carried out on the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa at their shipyard located at Dabhol - Usgaon.

Fattehsingh Patil, Director of Square Port Shipyard stated, “The ship building and repair industry in India has immense potential, however its capability is grossly under-utilized. The Government of India has provided a boost to this sector through its recent allocation in the Financial Budget for 2025-26. We hope that our (today’s) steel cutting ceremony shall be an important addition to Maharashtra’s shipbuilding capability and assist in realizing Maharashtra’s goal of becoming a $1 Trillion economy by 2027. With this steel cutting for building of a new Landing Craft, a total of 5 vessels are under construction at the shipyard as on today. We are in talks with many other major foreign shipyards and hope to give even more positive news in the coming few months,” he added.

The Square Port Shipyard at Dabhol, which is a subsidiary of HMPL, was earlier owned by Bharati Defence Infrastructure Limited which went into insolvency in 2017-18.

Wilson ASA, a company headquartered in Bergen, Norway, is the leading short sea fleet operator in Europe and transports about 15 million tonnes dry cargo across Europe. The Company operates a fleet of around 130 vessels ranging from 1500 to 8500 DWT.

Wilson ASA, has further signed a follow on order of 8 nos of 6300 TDW Dry Cargo Vessels as two batches in June 2024 and September 2024, totalling to 14 vessels. The projects are under various stages of construction.

Since takeover of the Yard by Cochin Shipyard Limited, UCSL has successfully delivered two 62T Bollard Pull Tugs to Ocean Sparkle Limited, an Adani Harbor Services Limited Company and two 70T Bollard Pull Tug to Polestar Maritime Limited, UCSL has also received further orders of four 70T Bollard Pull Tugs as repeat orders from Ocean Sparkle Limited (three) and Polestar Maritime Limited (one).

The Vessel has a length of 89.43 Meters, Breadth of 13.2 meters and has a draft of 4.2meters. The Vessels designed by Conoship International, Netherlands are constructed as environment friendly diesel electric vessels for the transport of general cargo in the coastal waters of Europe.

The Basics of Geothermal Energy Production

Geothermal energy production taps into the Earth's natural heat reservoirs through a process that involves drilling wells into underground pools of steam and hot water. This thermal energy is then harnessed to drive turbines connected to generators, producing electricity. There are three primary methods of geothermal energy production, each suited to different geological conditions and resource characteristics.

Dry Steam Power Plants: The simplest of the three methods, dry steam power plants pipe steam directly from underground reservoirs to the power plant. This high-pressure steam is used to fuel turbines, generating electricity with remarkable efficiency. These plants are ideal for areas with naturally occurring steam reservoirs.

Flash Steam Power Plants: This method utilizes geothermal reservoirs containing water at temperatures greater than 182°C. As this superheated water flows upward through wells under its own pressure, the decrease in pressure causes some of the water to flash into steam. This steam is then separated and used to power turbines and generators, while the remaining water can be flashed again to extract more energy or reinjected into the reservoir.

Binary Cycle Power Plants: For regions with lower temperature geothermal resources (between 107-182°C), binary cycle power plants offer an effective solution. These plants use the heat from hot water to boil a secondary working fluid, typically an organic compound with a low boiling point. The vaporized working fluid drives the turbines, while the geothermal water is reinjected into the ground to be reheated, creating a sustainable cycle.

Beyond Electricity: Direct Applications of Geothermal Energy

Geothermal energy's applications extend beyond electricity generation. One of its most practical uses is in heating and cooling buildings through geothermal heat pumps. These systems utilize a network of underground pipes to absorb the Earth's stable temperature. In winter, the relatively warmer ground heats a fluid circulating through the pipes, which is then used to warm buildings. In summer, the process is reversed, with the Earth acting as a heat sink to cool the buildings.

The Great Rift Valley that runs through Kenya holds vast geothermal resources, which the country has strategically harnessed to address its energy challenges.

Kenya's geothermal journey has yielded impressive results. As of 2023, the country boasts an installed geothermal capacity of approximately 891.8 MW, accounting for roughly 29% of its total power generation capacity. The Olkaria complex stands as the crown jewel of Kenya's geothermal efforts, with several operational power plants utilizing steam from the Earth's interior to generate clean electricity.

The benefits of Kenya's geothermal push have been multifaceted. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated three major infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 4,000s crore in Kochi, Kerala today. The projects being inaugurated today include New Dry Dock (NDD) at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) of CSL, and LPG Import Terminal of Indian Oil Corporation Limited at Puthuvypeen, Kochi. These major infrastructure projects are in line with the Prime Minister’s vision to transform India's ports, shipping, and waterways sector, and build capacity and self-sufficiency in it.

Inauguration of International Ship Repair Facility at Kochi

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister talked about his Darshan of Bhagwan Guruvyurappan at the temple this morning. He also recalled the mention of the holy temples of Kerala which are associated with Ramayan in his speech at the recent inauguration of Maharishi Valmiki International Airport at Ayodhya Dham. He expressed gratitude for being able to perform darshan at the Ramaswamy temple just a few days before the Pran Pratishtha at the Ayodhya Dham. He said that the beautiful presentation by the Kerala artists this morning brought about the feel of Awadh Puri in Kerala. 

Emphasizing the role of every state in the journey of making India ‘Viksit Bharat’ during the Amrit Kaal. PM Modi recalled the role of ports in India’s erstwhile prosperity in earlier times and envisaged a similar role for ports now when India is taking new strides and becoming a major center of global trade. In such a scenario, the Prime Minister said that the government is engaged in improving the strength of port cities like Kochi. He listed an increase in port capacity, investment in port infrastructure, and improved connectivity of ports under the Sagarmala Project. 

He mentioned the country’s largest dry dock that Kochi received today. Other projects like shipbuilding, ship repairing and LPG import terminal will also give momentum to development in Kerala and the southern region of the country. He also noted the honour of building ‘Made in India’ aircraft carrier INS Vikrant with the Kochi Shipyard. New facilities will enhance the capabilities of the shipyard many times. 

The Prime Minister highlighted the reforms made in the ports, shipping and waterways sector in the last 10 years and said that it has brought new investments in India’s ports and created new employment opportunities. He informed that the reforms of rules related to Indian Seafarers led to an increase in the number of seafarers in the country by 140 percent. Within the country, the Prime Minister said that passenger and cargo transport got a major boost by making use of inland waterways.

“Sabka Prayas yields better results”, the Prime Minister remarked highlighting that Indian ports have achieved double-digit annual growth in the last 10 years. Till 10 years ago, the Prime Minister recalled that ships had to wait quite long at the ports and the unloading took very long. “Today, the situation has changed”, Shri Modi said, informing that India has surpassed many developed nations when it comes to ship-turnaround time.

“The world is recognizing India’s potential and position in global trade”, PM Modi said, throwing light on the agreements made during India’s G20 Presidency regarding the Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. Shri Modi underlined that the Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor will further strengthen the creation of Viksit Bharat by giving a boost to the coastal economy of India. The Prime Minister also touched upon the recently launched Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision which presents a roadmap to reinforce India’s maritime prowess for Viksit Bharat. He reiterated the government’s efforts to build mega ports, shipbuilding and ship-repairing infrastructure in the country

PM Modi said that the new dry dock is the national pride of India. This will not only enable big vessels to dock but also make shipbuilding and ship repair work possible here, reducing dependence on foreign countries and will also save foreign exchange. 

Referring to the inauguration of the International Ship Repair Facility, the Prime Minister said that it will transform Kochi into India and Asia’s largest ship repair center. Drawing the analogy of multiple MSMEs coming together in the manufacturing of INS Vikrant, the Prime Minister expressed confidence in the creation of a new ecosystem of MSMEs with the inauguration of such huge shipbuilding and repair facilities. He further added that the new LPG Import Terminal will meet the LPG needs of Kochi, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Calicut, Madurai, and Trichy while also supporting industries, other economic development activities and creation of new jobs in these areas.

The Prime Minister noted the foremost position of Kochi Shipyard’s green technology capacities and its primacy in making ‘Make in India’ vessels. The Prime Minister also praised the electric vessels made for the Kochi Water Metro. Electric hybrid passenger ferries for Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mathura and Guwahati are being made here. “Kochi Shipyard is playing an important role in modern and green water connectivity in the cities of the country,” he said. He also mentioned zero-emission electric cargo ferries being made for Norway and the work in progress on the world’s first hydrogen-fueled feeder container vessel. “Kochi Shipyard is further strengthening our mission of taking India towards hydrogen fuel-based transport. I am confident that very soon the country will also get indigenous hydrogen fuel cell ferry,” PM Modi added. 

The Prime Minister highlighted the role of the fishermen community in the blue economy and port-led development. Shri Modi credited the manifold increase in fish production and exports in the last 10 years to the development of new infrastructure projects under PM Matsya Sampada Yojna, subsidy provided by the central government for modernized boats to carry out deep sea fishing and Kisan Credit Cards for fishermen along the lines of farmers. He said that the government is giving impetus to boosting India’s contributions in the seafood processing sector which will lead to a huge increase in the income of fishermen and make their lives easier. The Prime Minister concluded by wishing for continued rapid development of Kerala and congratulated the citizens for the new infrastructure projects.

Background

The New Dry Dock, built at a cost of about Rs 1,800 crores at the existing premises of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, is a flagship project reflecting New India's engineering prowess. This one-of-a-kind 310-meter-long stepped dry dock, with a width of 75/60 meters, depth of 13 meters and a draught of up to 9.5 metres, is one of the largest marine infrastructures in the region. The New Dry Dock project features heavy ground loading which will position India with advanced capabilities to handle strategic assets like future aircraft carriers up to 70,000T displacement as well as large commercial vessels, thus eliminating India's dependency on foreign nations for emergency national requirements.

The International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) project, built at a cost of about Rs 970 crores has a ship lift system with a capacity of 6000T, a transfer system, six workstations and a berth of approximately 1,400 metres which can accommodate 7 vessels of 130-metre length simultaneously. The ISRF will modernise and expand the existing ship repair capabilities of CSL and will be a step towards transforming Kochi into a global ship repair hub.

The Indian Oil’s LPG Import Terminal at Puthuvypeen, Kochi, built at the cost of about Rs 1,236 crores boasts state-of-the-art facilities. With a 15400 MT storage capacity, the terminal will ensure a steady supply of LPG for millions of households and businesses in the region. This project will further strengthen India's efforts towards ensuring accessible & affordable energy for all.

With the commissioning of these 3 projects, the nation’s shipbuilding and repair capacities and the growth of energy infrastructure including ancillary industries will get a boost. The projects will also boost EXIM Trade, reduce logistics costs, drive economic growth, build self-reliance and create numerous domestic and international business opportunities.

Reducing Environmental Impact

Ambitious climate action strategy and targets to reduce greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions: NCLH recently announced its revamped climate action strategy focused on efficiency, innovation and collaboration, along with ambitious short- and near-term emissions reduction targets that support the Company’s pursuit of net zero by 2050. The Company is now targeting a reduction in GHG intensity of 10% by 2026 and 25% by 2030, compared to a 2019 baseline with intensity measured on a per Capacity Day basis⁽¹⁾.

Methanol-Ready newbuilds on order: Modified the final two Prima Class ships, expected to be delivered in 2027 and 2028, to accommodate the use of green methanol as an alternative fuel source in the future. While additional modifications will be needed in the future to fully enable the use of methanol in addition to traditional marine fuel on these ships, this reinforces the NCLH’s commitment to decarbonization.

Focus on water stewardship: NCLH continues to improve water production rates while at the same time focusing on efforts to decrease consumption. Across its fleet, 90% of the fresh water used in 2022 was produced on board.

Testing biodiesel fuels: Successfully tested small quantities of biodiesel blend B30, which is 70% marine gas oil and 30% biodiesel, in four of its ships to-date. By the end of 2023, NCLH anticipates more than 20% of its fleet will have tested and operated on biodiesel blends.

Investing in shore power: NCLH currently has 12 ships equipped with shore power capabilities which allows these ships to connect to onshore electrical power grids to supply much of the power needed while docked when available. The Company continues to invest in expanding this technology and expects to have approximately 60% of its fleet shore-power enabled by year-end 2023 and approximately 70% by year-end 2025.

Sailing Safely

Robust public health program to protect guests, crew and communities we visit: NCLH operates a comprehensive 24/7/365 public health and safety program, working closely with health authorities around the world to implement and continuously improve policies and procedures that meet and, in many cases, exceed regulations. Crew members are also highly trained in the Company’s Outbreak Prevention and Response Plan, designed to mitigate, and help prevent the spread of communicable diseases.

Continuous public health training and education: In partnership with representatives from various government agencies and suppliers, NCLH continues to host public health training through monthly online collaborations as well as annual in-person summits.

Prioritized safety and security efforts: Utmost importance placed on safety and security at sea with third-party audits conducted regularly to verify compliance. Each ship also has a resident Safety Officer, with experience ranging between 10 and 15 years in various roles at sea, and ship crews participate in regular safety training, exercises and drills on board and shoreside.

Empowering People

Enhanced employee benefits demonstrate commitment to team members: NCLH expanded its suite of employee benefits by adding new Family Care Benefits which provides fully paid maternity, paternity and adoption leave as well as family planning assistance for full-time U.S shoreside team members.

Fostering inclusive workforce where diverse backgrounds are represented and empowered: Across NCLH’s global shoreside workforce, 61% of team members are female, including 47% of managers and above. In addition, across the U.S. shoreside workforce, 67% of team members were under-represented minorities, including 54% of managers and above. In 2023, the Company also appointed three new Presidents to lead its brands, all three of whom were internal and ethnically or gender diverse candidates, including the appointment of NCLH’s first female brand President, Andrea DeMarco, to lead Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

Provided training and development opportunities across workforce: NCLH team members logged more than 800,000 hours of training and development across various roles and responsibilities, cementing the corporate philosophy to empower top talent and foster robust career development.

Ongoing corporate efforts to philanthropic contributions: NCLH contributed more than $2 million in monetary and in-kind donations to nonprofit organizations around the world. Synergy, which employs over 20,000 seafarers, commissioned Hercules Safety to manufacture the new gear to the highest specifications. 

The PPE was designed by textile engineers in conjunction with female seafarers and maritime safety experts to ensure that the final cut maximised comfort and versatility for crew deployed in a maritime work environment where the highest standards of protection are required.

The material consists of 100% soft and durable cotton, with seams reinforced in high stress areas to ensure both safety and comfort over extended periods of time. The PPE is also highly visible with 3M reflective strips designed to maximise visibility in all maritime working environments.

The new Hercules Safety PPE is currently being distributed to all female crew as port rotations allow. The roll-out takes in on over 60 Synergy-managed vessels worldwide on which female seafarers are currently deployed.

Captain Radhika Menon, winner of the 2016 International Maritime Organization award for exceptional bravery at sea and a mentor to Synergy’s young female seafarers, said, “These new coveralls are a great fit and super-functional: breathable, weatherproof, lightweight and comfortable. The fabric is suitable and protective for the bridge and for the engine room where it gets hot. It’s also resilient, just like our seafarers; a quality we are happy to celebrate as International Women’s Day draws near. This new PPE enhances safety which is always Synergy’s priority.”

Chief Officer Reshma Murkar said the commission of the new PPE sent a positive message about equality to the maritime community. “To be 100% work fit, we need the best fit, and that is what we have now,” she added. “These new PPE designs represent a clear commitment to supporting the role of women in shipping and illustrate why Synergy is making so much ground in its efforts to attract more women to our marvellous industry.”

Third Officer Noopur Mohire said that many seafarer products were designed with men in mind, rendering them ill-fitting for women. “Synergy prioritises crew safety and this new PPE clearly offers that,” she added. “But it’s also very comfortable to wear and I’m glad female seafarers were consulted during the design process by Hercules Safety. I’ve got plenty of pockets to carry my tools, but not too many that they are a hazard. I can move around easily, and I’ve got protection when I’m on deck conducting duties.”

Synergy’s progressive policies on diversity, inclusivity and equality have enabled women employed by Synergy, as well as the company itself, to grow and prosper. Synergy’s commitment to encouraging women to become seafarers now includes its own Chakra Scholarship which enables 14-15 years old students to begin training to join the maritime industry.

Monaco Boat Challenge

The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge is a competition uniting yachting projects around zero emission propulsion and sustainability. The event gathers teams participating in the races and the industry taking part in the exhibition and conferences resulting in a Sustainability Hub at the heart of the Yacht Club de Monaco. University Teams and professionals will be challenged on water and during tech talks reflecting on the future of zero emission propulsion.

This event occurs annually, positioning Monaco as the ‘World Capital of Yachting’ which is owned and managed by the Yacht Club de Monaco. Initiated in 1904, when Monaco welcomed the first powerboat meetings trialling the first combustion engines at sea, it is now a testing ground for green innovation where students, engineers, researchers, owners, and the industry can meet.

Team Sea Sakthi is the first and the only Indian energy-boat team to participate in this event. These students will represent India in Monaco among 32 other teams from other countries such as the USA, Canada, Greece, Dubai, Indonesia etc. The team is competing in the Energy Class boat building, which comprises just two power sources, which are solely renewable and have an electric propulsion system under the guidance of Chief Technical Advisor Mr. Sandith Thandasherry (Founder & CEO - NavAlt Solar & Electric Boats Pvt. International Seminar on Shipbuilding and Ship Repair in the Arctic

According to First Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and Arctic Gadzhimagomed Guseynov, one of the main challenges facing shipbuilding and ship repair is the goal set by Russian President Vladimir Putin of transporting at least 80 million tonnes of cargo along the Northern Sea Route by 2024 and 150 million tons by 2030. He stressed that volumes of this kind required large investments and the construction of a fleet.
 

“We are currently experiencing a shortage of ship repair facilities, especially in the Arctic and the Far East. There are a number of fundamental tasks we need to resolve here,” Guseynov said. He mentioned that there were preferential regimes in place in the region, pointing in particular to the insurance premium benefits available to company residents of the Arctic zone at 7.5% instead of the usual 30%. Income tax preferences also exist, along with the possibility of a free customs zone procedure providing 0% VAT on goods placed under the STZ procedure. However, the First Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic emphasized that in addition to the existing incentives for ship repair enterprises, 0% VAT was essential.
 

For one reason or another, owners preferred to have their ships repaired abroad. According to Alexey Rakhmanov, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, one of the reasons is ship ownership falling under foreign jurisdiction. “We need to make the Russian flag convenient for shipping purposes, and this will contribute to the development of domestic ship repair,” he said. By setting VAT to zero, shipowners would stand to benefit by 20% when having their repairs carried out in Russia instead of Norway, Rakhmanov summed up.
 

Governor of Arkhangelsk Region Alexander Tsybulsky noted that approximately half of all foreign ports were closed to the repair of Russian vessels, and Indonesia and Turkey had significantly increased prices for related work. “Not only are prices here becoming more competitive - we can already do the work more affordably,” Tsybulsky said.

The development of safe shipping in the Arctic along the Northern Sea Route is a priority of the Russian Chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021-2023. Russia considers it important to make shipping routes in the polar regions safe as well as environmentally and economically efficient. The Russian side supports cooperation in training highly qualified maritime personnel for work in the Arctic and developing unified educational standards in this area, as well as ensuring the preparedness of rescue services and units, and developing communication and navigation facilities.

The nearly 1,100-foot-long Norwegian Encore, with a gross tonnage of almost 170,000 and a guest capacity of nearly 4,000, will embark on her first preview cruise from Bremerhaven, Germany on Oct. 31, arriving to Southampton, England on Nov. 2. The Mumbai event was part of a series of six interactive entrepreneurial events as a part of “Road to the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) Series” organised by FICCI in partnership with NITI Aayog.

In partnership with the Government of the United States of America, NITI Aayog is hosting the eighth annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in India from November 28-30, 2017. APM Terminals Pipavav (Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd.), today announced the standalone financial results for the quarter and full year ended March 31, 2017.

For the fourth quarter ended March 2017, the company reported a net profit of INR 662 million for Q4FY17 as against INR 517 million in Q4FY16. Total Income for the quarter under consideration stood at INR 1,746 million as against INR 1,610 million in Q4FY16.

EBIDTA for the quarter was at INR 1,147 million and EBIDTA margin stood at 65.7%.

The Container cargo business for the quarter stood at (appx.) 158k TEUs, Bulk business at (appx.) 300 kMT and Liquid business at (appx.) 250 kMT. RoRo business at (appx.) 24k units for the quarter under review.

For the full year ended March 2017, the company reported a net profit of INR 2,499 million. Total Income from operations for FY17 stood at INR 6,831 million. EBIDTA for FY17 was at INR 4,186 million and EBIDTA margin stood at 61.3%.

For FY17, the Container cargo business was 663k TEUs, Bulk business was 2 million MT, Liquid business was appx 686 kMT and RoRo business was appx. 84k units.

The board recommends a dividend of 18% (Rs. 1.80 per share) for FY 17.

APM Terminals, Pipavav received the inaugural container train from Rail Container Terminal [RCT], Vadodara carrying Glass Materials, Syringes, Led Bulb, flexible intermediate bulk container [FIBC] Jumbo bags, Plastic Articles for export. Operated by Container Corporation of India [CONOCR], the inaugural trip of the container train service was welcomed by officials from Railways, CONCOR, APM Terminals and Liners.

Vadodara is the trade Centre of western India having industries like Petrochemicals, Engineering, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Plastics, IT and Foreign exchange services amongst others. It is also an important terminal for the Indian railways connecting Vadodara city with North, South and Eastern regions of the country. Through this service, customers in and around the city will get an option of movement of their cargos to and from Vadodara for their export/import with no pilferage in transit. This environmentally friendly mode of transport will bring operational efficiency along with decongestion of roads.

The current fortnightly service will be converted to a weekly service going forward.

APM Terminals Pipavav welcomed the Hoegh Tracer, one of the world’s largest pure car and truck Carrier (PCTC), and the largest to ever call an Indian port. At 14 decks high, the Hoegh Tracer has a capacity of 8,500 vehicles, and loaded 1,700 cars at Pipavav for export delivery on the Hoegh Middle East, India and Africa (MIAF) Service.

APM Terminals Pipavav, in partnership with NYK Auto Logistics (India), opened a dedicated common user integrated RoRo terminal in August of 2015, with a capacity of 250,000 vehicles annually. There is also a mobilization yard for 150 cars, with a capacity to accommodate approximately 500 cars on the Quay.

APM Terminals Pipavav implements e-SMTP for paper free customs clearance procedure

Containers at Pipavav Port are being released for train loading according to the e-SMTP messages received from ICEGATE [Indian Customs Electronic Commerce/Electronic Data interchange (EC/EDI) Gateway] through PCS [port community system]. By implementing  e-SMTP, containers can be planned for loading within couple of hours of vessel’s inward entry filed by customs in ICEGATE. Implementation of system will help in a quick turnaround of cargoes, thereby resulting into 12 to 48 hours of savings every week.

The company reported a net profit of INR 594 million for Q2FY17 as against INR 875 million in Q2FY16. Total Income for the quarter under consideration stood at INR 1,722 million as against INR 1,490 million in Q2FY16.

EBIDTA for the quarter was at INR 986 million and EBIDTA margin stood at 57%.

The Container cargo business for the quarter stood at appx. 166 k TEUs, Bulk business was at 705 k MT and Liquid business was at appx. 78 k MT. RoRo business was appx. 22 k units for the quarter under review.

The company reported a net profit of INR 598 million for Q1FY17 as against INR 372 million in Q1FY16. Profit from operations for the quarter under consideration stood at INR 751 million as against INR 746 million in Q1FY16.

EBIDTA for the quarter was at INR 1002 million and EBIDTA margin stood at 60%.

The Container cargo business for the quarter stood at appx. 172k TEUs, Bulk business was at 600k MT and Liquid business was at appx. 128k MT. RoRo business was appx. 11k units for the quarter under review.

Under the agreement, LTHE and McDermott will develop a cost-effective approach which will utilize LTHE’s state-of-the-art, strategically located Kattupalli facility near Chennai. It will be used for fabrication and setting up of a local spool base in India. The versatile fleet and combination of reel lay and S lay methods for laying of subsea pipelines will be by McDermott. This offers a unique and compelling value proposition for future east coast India deepwater developments.

LTHE and McDermott have successfully cooperated on several other projects in India previously and this agreement further strengthens the relationship between the two companies. The agreement builds on successful collaboration between McDermott and LTHE which resulted in the recent Rs.2450 Crore order to the Consortium of McDermott and LTHE for Vashishta Deepwater Greenfield development.

The project will play a critical role which has been conceptualised by KRCL as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) as per Participative Policy promulgated by Ministry of Railways in association with Konkan Railway, Maharashtra Maritime Board and M/s JSWJPL to transport bulk commodities from Jaigarh port to Konkan Railway and further onward movement to hinterland.

JSW Jaigarh Port is a modern, mechanized, all weather deep water port having a capacity of 15 million ton per annum with two berths and is expanding rapidly to achieve capacity of 65 mtpa by 2020. After having successfully handled cape size vessel (1,80,000 DWT), it is aiming for direct berthing of next generation vessels, i.e. Vale Max- the dry bulk carrier, Q- Max (the LNG carrier), Triple-E (the largest container carrier) and Very Large Crude Carriers.

APM Terminals Pipavav (Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd), operating one of western India’s fastest growing gateway ports, today reported a net profit of INR 669 million for the quarter ended 31^st March 2015 as against INR 893 million in the corresponding quarter last year. The quarter included exceptional item of INR 346 million representing one-time finance charges written off in the quarter. Barring the exception item, the net profit was boosted by an increase container and bulk cargo and income earned under the Served for India Scheme.

Income for the quarter ended 31^st March 2015 stood at INR 1,880 million as against INR 1,562 million for the corresponding quarter last year; up 20 %. EBIDTA for the quarter was up 23% at INR 1,126 million and EBIDTA margin stood at 60%.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (“APSEZ”), India’s largest port developer and part of Adani Group, today announced the financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended March 31, 2015.

Consolidated cargo across all ports handled by the company was 144 MMT in FY15, an increase of 28%, over corresponding period last year. Adani ports at Mundra handled 111 MMT cargo in FY15 thereby continuing its leadership as the largest commercial port business in India. The Mundra port registered a 10% growth in FY15 compared to 5% aggregate cargo growth at all major ports.

Also, in case of containers, the Mundra port handled 2.72 Million TEUs in FY15 as against 2.39 Million TEU’s in corresponding to same period last year resulting in a 14 % growth as compared to growth of 7% aggregate growth in container volumes at all the major ports.

Consolidated cargo handled by the company was 36 MMT in Q4FY15, an increase of 26%, over corresponding quarter last year. Adani ports at Mundra handled 27 MMT cargo in Q4FY15 thereby continuing its leadership as the single largest commercial port in India.

Consolidated total income increased by 24% to Rs.6,838 crores in FY15 as compared to Rs.5,514 crores in the corresponding period last year and consolidated EBIDTA increased by 27% to Rs. 4,588 crores in the current year as compared to Rs. 3,604 crores in corresponding period last year.

The consolidated PAT for the current year increased by 33% to Rs 2,314 crores, as compared to Rs 1,740 crores in corresponding period last year.

Consolidated total income increased by 42% to Rs.1,832 crores in Q4FY15 as compared to Rs.1,291 crores in the corresponding quarter last year and consolidated EBIDTA increased by 49% to Rs. 1,247 crores in the current quarter as compared to Rs.836 crores in corresponding quarter last year.

The consolidated PAT in current quarter increased by 25% to Rs 661 crores, as compared to Rs 530 crores in corresponding quarter last year.

The above results include the result of The Dhamra Port Company Limited, which APSEZ acquired on June 23, 2014.

Commenting on the results, Mr. Gautam Adani, Chairman, Adani Group said, “This year the Adani Group celebrated its Silver Jubilee and it has been a very eventful year. We have created additional future pathways for growth for our APSEZ business and as the opportunities in Indian port sector rapidly multiply in the days to come we believe we are well positioned to capture the growth and capitalize on our model of integrated business”.

Elaborating on the performance, Mr. Sudipta Bhattacharya, Chief Executive Officer of APSEZ, said “The Company has had another record year. We accelerated our growth and grew our cargo volumes by 28% and net profit by 33%. This year we also completed the Dhamra Port acquisition, commercialized the Tuna Port in record time and signed a 50:50 JV with CMA Terminals to build a brand new container terminal at Mundra”.

The Board of Directors have recommended a dividend of 55% i.e Rs.1.10 per equity share for FY 2014-15.

Our extractive capacity has increased three folds to 4 MMT in 2014 and we aim to extract 200 MMT per annum by 2020, thereby making Adani one of the largest mining groups in the world.

Logistics denotes a large network of Ports, Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Multi-Modal Logistics - Railways and Ships.

Adani owns and operates seven ports and terminals – Mundra, Dahej, Hazira and Tuna Tekra, Kandla in Gujarat, Dhamra in Orissa, Mormugao in Goa and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India. Mundra Port, which is the largest port in India, benefits from deep draft, first-class infrastructure and SEZ status. It crossed the 100 MMT mark of cargo handling in FY14. Adani is also developing port at Ennore in Tamil Nadu, India.

 Energy involves Power generation & transmission and Gas distribution.

Adani is the largest private thermal power producer in India with an installed capacity of 10,440 MW. Our three power projects are spread out across the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra & Rajasthan.

We also provide a range of reliable and environment friendly energy solutions, in the form of CNG and PNG. In fact, the above-mentioned installed capacity also includes a 40 MW solar plant at Bitta, Gujarat. 

OPVs under the project are long range surface ships, capable of operation in maritime zones of India, including island territories with helicopter operational capabilities. Their roles include coastal and offshore patrolling, policing maritime zones of India, control and surveillance, anti-smuggling and anti-piracy with limited wartime roles.

In keeping with Government’s ‘Make in India’ focus, complete design and engineering of OPVs is planned to be undertaken in-house at L&T’s Warship Design Centre. The first OPV under the project is scheduled to be delivered within 36 months from signing of the contract. Subsequent OPVs shall be delivered at six months interval.

L&T is already executing MoD contracts for design and construction of 54 fast Interceptor Boats (IBs) for the Indian Coast Guard. 25 IBs have already been delivered so far to ICG with the latest boat having been delivered 23 months ahead of schedule.  L&T is targeting to complete delivery of all boats far ahead of schedule.

With contracts for 54 IBs and 7 OPVs, L&T is positioned as the largest supplier of patrol vessels to the Indian Coast Guard.

The weekly service is scheduled to call at Chennai every Tuesday at 0900 Hours and sail out on Wednesday 0900 Hours. ME-5 service will deploy 7 x 4500 TEU capacity vessels and operate with the following port rotation:

Port Said, Algeciras, Valencia, Genoa, Port Said, Aqaba, Jeddah, Djibouti, Salalah, Colombo, Chennai, Colombo, Salalah, Jeddah, Aqaba and back to Port Said

The first vessel to call at MICT under MAWINGU service was Hansa America. The berthing of the vessel was commemorated with a function on board.

The Maersk Line-operated weekly service is scheduled to call at MICT every Thursday and will sail out at 12 PM. It will deploy 3500 TEU (twenty foot equivalent units) capacity vessels with the following port rotation: Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (Nhava Sheva) and Mundra, India; Port Qasim, Pakistan; Salalah, Oman; Mombasa, Kenya; and back to JNPT.
