The facility was e-inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, on 12^th February 2026, reflecting the state’s strong commitment to positioning itself as a preferred destination for large-scale, next-generation data centre investments.

With 40 MW already operational at its Chennai Ambattur campus, STT GDC India continues to scale its presence in one of India’s fastest-growing digital markets. Earlier this month, the Company also marked the groundbreaking of STT Chennai 4 within the same campus, unlocking a total development potential of approximately 130 MW, inclusive of the existing operational capacity. Tamil Nadu has been identified as the project location given its established subsea landing ecosystem, predictable power landscape and increasing demand for high-density compute capacity. Wi-Fi Shield Secures Electric Power Campus Network: wireless signals are vulnerable to eavesdropping. Huawei has pioneered an innovative Wi-Fi Shield technology. The AP precisely detects the physical location of the target user. When transmitting packet data, it simultaneously emits a randomized noise signal.

Huawei Solutions Target Challenges in Public Services

In his speech, Li Junfeng (Wind), Vice President of Huawei and CEO of the Global Public Sector BU, said that driven by cloud and AI, Huawei has built a centralized, efficient, and secure cloud foundation that supports intelligent transformation of government and public services, while supporting data aggregation, processing, and value extraction.

Shan Zhiguang, Director of the Informatization and Industry Development Dept, State Information Center, highlighted China's ICT-driven transformation as a valuable model for global smart governance.

Secure & Sovereign: To address challenges of national digital self-reliant security, Huawei offers multiple deployment models (e.g. public cloud, full-stack dedicated cloud, and Huawei Cloud Stack). 3. Innovative & AI Ready: The architecture builds three effectiveness platforms for applications, data, and AI to achieve efficient supply and use of high-quality data. During his opening speech, Frank Lu, Vice President of Huawei's ISP & OTT BU, spoke about the new opportunities awaiting ISPs thanks to the acceleration of global digital transformation and the surge in B2B services, such as government and enterprise private lines and cloud interconnection. ISPs must focus on the future, prioritizing strategic foresight, differentiated services, and efficiency improvement. They need to plan their networks ahead of time by designing a 3–5 year roadmap from a global perspective, shaping business trends proactively rather than merely responding reactively.

Ado Du, CEO of Huawei's Wide Area Network Domain, took the opportunity during his keynote speech to explain how Huawei's One ISP One Network target architecture helps ISPs develop their B2B services through three key strategies: (1) Build an agile, flexible, and modular architecture that decouples networks from services, enabling rapid service rollout and efficient network expansion. (2) Provide full-lifecycle services centered on user experience and deliver differentiated experiences through SRv6 and ROADM technologies. (3) Promote intelligent O&M to enable fast service provisioning, fault self-healing, and more efficient O&M.

At the roundtable, representatives from Iraq's DIL Technology for Communications and South Africa's Vumatel shared their experience in facilitating B2B services through their networks. And discussions involving active participation by ISP experts offered valuable suggestions on network planning and construction. The event also saw Huawei releasing its One ISP One Network Whitepaper, which thoroughly analyzes ISP industry trends, target architecture, and the evolution roadmap. This whitepaper aims to help customers monetize network resources and unlock network value.

Series 3 SoCs Will Feature World’s Most Nimble Modem, Most Secure and Scalable Memory

Series 3 devices will be able to answer the challenges that the continued acceleration of IoT poses: demands for more processing power at far-edge devices across all IoT applications in key areas including, but not limited to, smart cities and civil infrastructure, commercial buildings, retail and warehouses, smart factories and Industry 4.0, smart homes, connected health, and the demand for increasingly portable, secure, compute-intensive applications. They do this by addressing the key needs of the growing IoT:

• Connectivity: The full Series 3 portfolio will include dozens of products covering all major protocols and frequency bands, to connect just about anything. The first Series 3 device is designed to include the world’s most flexible IoT modem, capable of true concurrency on three wireless networks with micro-second channel switching.

• Compute: Series 3 devices will be multicore, with Arm Cortex-M application processors and dedicated co-processors for the radio and security subsystems as well as dedicated high performance machine learning subsystems for select devices. With the most scalable memory architecture in its class, combined with Cortex-M processors ranging from a Cortex-M33 at 133 MHz to dual Cortex-M55s running over 200 MHz, Series 3 devices enable complex applications and embedded real-time operating systems.

• Security: All Series 3 devices will support Silicon Labs Secure Vault High, with additional features like Authenticated Execute in Place to allow trusted communication between the device and the cloud. Series 3 will also have the world’s most secure memory interface, hardening one of the primary vectors of attack when intruders gain physical access and protecting the device maker’s IP. Series 3 will also incorporate the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s recently released post-Quantum encryption standards. 

• Smart: Select Series 3 devices will feature Silicon Labs’ second-generation Matrix Vector Processor, which offloads complex ML operations off of the main CPU onto a specialized accelerator designed to increase ML performance by up to 100x in wireless, battery-powered devices, drastically reducing power draw.

A key driver in the design for this IoT revolution is data, which flows between edge devices to the cloud and back again. This two-directional flow makes IoT edge devices an ideal partner in the growing world of AI. Not only can the devices be used to make limited decisions at the edge, like smart thermostats that assess ambient temperatures and make adjustments to a home’s HVAC, but also with the advent of massive cloud-based AI applications, edge devices can also play a critical role as data collectors and apply their ML abilities to filter the valuable data from the chaff better. The ability to identify and transmit the data for the “corner cases” that AI operators value to make their systems more intelligent.

The first Series 3 SoC is currently being sampled by customers, and more information will be revealed in the first half of 2025.

Series 1 and Series 2 SoCs Continue to Break the Air Gap

Silicon Labs Series 1 and Series 2 devices continue to be successful in helping to scale the IoT, provide secure, robust connectivity, and open up new applications. The Silicon Labs Series 2 platform grows today with the general availability of a family of new Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth LE ICs: the SiWG917 wireless MCU (SoC), the SiWN917 network-co-processor for hosted applications, and the SiWT917 radio co-processor IC targeted for applications running higher end operating systems. The SiWx917 family is designed from the ground-up for ultra-low-power Wi-Fi 6 applications, offering up to 2 years battery life on a single AAA battery in select IoT applications.

Earlier this year, Silicon Labs announced the BG26 and MG26 devices for Bluetooth and 802.15.4 connectivity. These wireless SoCs are built to be future proof as the needs of the IoT grow and feature the same Matrix Vector Processor for dedicated machine learning as the upcoming Series 3. The MG26 and BG26 doubled their predecessor's Flash, RAM, and GPIO, and this innovation earned them one of IoT Evolution’s Product of the Year awards.

Silicon Labs Series 2 devices also serve an emerging area around Ambient IoT. This exciting new technology allows IoT devices to draw power from ambient sources in their environment, like indoor or outdoor ambient light, ambient radio waves, and kinetic motion. In partnership with PMIC manufacturer e-peas, Silicon Labs announced the xG22E, a new ultra-low power variant of the xG22 wireless SoC that has a substantially reduced power budget and advanced sleep/wake engines that allow it to operate within the ambient IoT power envelope. This broadly applies to sensors, switches, and commercial applications like electronic shelf labels.

There is still more to come for Series 2 in 2025 and Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3 will co-exist as strong offerings for vast amount of IoT applications.

Connecting the Unconnected for Digital Bharat was the theme for the inaugural session. Mr. T. V. Ramachandran, President, Broadband India Forum, gave the inaugural address. He said, “As India marches towards 2025, an important focus should be on bolstering both wireline and wireless connectivity throughout the country. While government initiatives like BharatNet and the 5G Intelligent Village Initiative are commendable strides, the Broadband India Summit 2024 brings out the important point on the calibrated use of all technologies to achieve Broadband for All. These initiatives will not only enhance internet access but also serve as a cornerstone for realizing the Viksit India vision.”

Chief Guest, Shri Niraj Verma, IAS, Administrator (Digital Bharat Nidhi) DoT, Ministry of Communications said, “The topic of connecting the unconnected is a very important topic. A futuristic technology is what the Govt. of India is aiming at. It’s all about economics in broadband. A 10 percent increase in India’s broadband leads to an increase of 3.5 percent in GDP. It is the means to an end. Rural economy is what Indian Govt is planning to accelerate. The ease of doing business will definitely improve under the National Broadband Mission.”

Guest of Honour, Shri A. Robert J. Ravi, Chairman & Managing Director, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, said, “The world is completely converging. The key of broadband is penetration. Because of evolving technologies, the real time data speed is a long way in the country. High speed data will generate employment opportunities within the country. Societal needs will grow, by connecting the unconnected. The new concept of fiber to rooms is evolving, creating a new era of immersive broadband.”

Mr. Puneet Garg, President and Group Wireline CTO, Reliance Jio, who delivered the operator address was heard quoting, “Digital inclusivity is the key. Digital divide needs to be mitigated for achieving this inclusivity. Spanning across many technologies is what broadband is all about and India will reap its benefits across all sectors. We are aiming at connecting homes for Digital Bharat. Jio Air Fiber is accelerating this process. Metaverse interface is also coming in few years from now.”

Mr. Dharmender Khajuria, National Head - Network Partnerships, Bharti Airtel, stated, “About 85 percent is teledensity. Digital India programme, supported by DoT are linked to the GDP of the country. Broadband penetration is slightly low in India, compared to other countries. Wireline to Wireless needs to go up.”

Mr. Sanjay Nagpal, Director, Go to Market, Taara, said, “Using our next-generation free space optical connectivity solution, Taara is working with service providers and mobile operators to expand access to affordable broadband in both rural and urban communities of India. The technology can accelerate operators' time to market as a true complement to fiber."
 

Mr. Andrew Bond Webster, VP, Broadband APAC, CommScope, in his speech quoted, “End customers require higher bandwidth, quality of service, looking for accessibility. Bandwidth is growing; latency and capacity are fundamental requirements for broadband. AI is going to play pivotal role in broadband latency. Speed, price, and latency are key elements in accessing network. India’s progress is quite staggering to me, which has made tremendous leap over the years.”

In this backdrop, Bharat Exhibitions organized the second edition of BHARAT 6G 2024 International Conference & Exhibition on 15^th of May 2024 at Hotel Le-Meridien, New Delhi. Key leaders, innovators, developers, and experts from all industry verticals converged to share their thoughts, experiences and predictions for the “6G standardization and deployment in India”.

The conference started with the Plenary Panel Discussion on the topic: Research and Standardization Roadmaps for 6G. Distinguished guests included Mr. T.V. Ramachandran, President, BIF, who gave the welcome speech. “6G standards will bring and mandate a new much-elevated baseline performance for both the networks and the devices. Recent 5G-advanced have developed many different capabilities on energy efficiency, on uplink performance, on coverage enhancements and more,” he said. He also stressed on the extensive research conducted on 6G standards. “India will go places,” he harnessed.

Shri A. Robert Jerard Ravi, DDG (SRI), DoT presided over the session as the session chair. “India is preparing for the arrival of 6G wireless technology, with commercial deployment to be expected by 2030. We are actively working on standardizations in various verticals within the country. Can we have 6G run network in India that is our vision,” he stated.

Shri S. K. Marwaha, Scientist G & Group Coordinator, MeitY, “We have already working in standard research in some educational institutions within the country. Our industry collaboration and operators should come together more actively to make things work things work efficiently,” he mentioned in his speech.

Prof. Kiran Kuchi, Dean – R & D, IIT, Hyderabad, “I would like to thank DoT and MEITY for active co-operation in standards development. We need to increase our output. Time is right for 6G, funding is the key now,” he stressed upon.

Shri AK Mittal, Advisor, TSDSI, mentioned his speech, “India’s active role in 5G and 6G standardization has increased interest in India's technological breakthroughs, with countries such as the United States expressing a strong desire to receive India's cutting-edge 6G technology. We are taking Indian requirements and Indian innovations to global standards organizations.”

Mr. Pradeep Bhardwaj, Sr. Strategy Director & Head of Industry Standards, Syniverse, in his speech emphasized, “In 4G we spent 48 months, what did we did in 5G, 27 months, we rolled out 5G standards, we should have taken more time, as it is affecting each and every domain in the world now. The key is how we approach the new way of life, set new standards and now we are seeing results.”

Mr. Dinesh Chand Sharma, Director – Standards & Public Policy, SESEI said, “It’s a great time for 6G standardizations. Participation has gone up. Start-ups are playing a major role in helping 6G standardizations. We need to have a funding mechanism for this, a consortium is always there for collaboration, and we just need to push it more.”

The session was then open up to questions and answers among the participants.

Inaugural Session: Network Evolution beyond 5G & India’s Vision for 6G

Chief Guest, Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India captivated the audience during Inaugural Session of the Bharat 6G 2024 conference. He mentioned, “Both 5G and 6G roll outs happen simultaneously, we at the Govt level are trying our level best. We are setting standards, connecting with players, and bringing in all key components together so that everything functions across all sectors. It is a national goal for us, and we are on the right track”. He further added, that ‘6G has the potential to enhance India’s digital economy’ and that it will lead to data proliferation and provide better input for AI to be used. “All industry leaders should come together,” he stressed upon.

Mr. Ashwani Rana, Vice President, BIF gave the introductory address. In his speech he mentioned, “Lot of activities are taking place in 6G standardization and implementation. Evolution of networks is quite exciting for a country like India, with diverse background. AI, ML, IoT will play pivotal role in 6G deployment within the country.”

Mr. Shyam Mardikar, Group Chief Technology Officer - Mobility, Reliance Jio was the next to speak. He mentioned, “The role of 6G in cementing India’s digital leadership. The 6G Core must support exceedingly dense telecom networks given the high frequency bands the network will use. Moreover, 6G must be backward compatible with 5G and 4G. JPL is therefore working on evolving the core network so that all the telecom generations – 4G, 5G, and 6G – can interwork.”

Lt. Gen. Dr. S.P. Kochhar, Director General, COAI in his special address was heard saying, “I would like to congratulate the Govt, DoT for a speeder roll outs. An amalagamation of information technology is the need of the hour. Networks, Data, Speed and Applications, are key components and the dynamics of these will add to the success and application of 5G and beyond.”

Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman and MD, TCIL stressed on the importance of 6G or high speed internet facilities in rural areas. During COVID, healthcare centers were highly impacted by connectivity. Financial or digitalization of the banking system is the most important, homeland security too needs to be mentioned in this regard.

Mr. Sandeep Saxena, Head of Technology & Solutions (Mobile Networks) India, NOKIA delivered the Industry Address. He touched upon the economic aspect vis a vis network connectivity in India.  He said, “In the 6G era, the digital, physical and human world will seamlessly fuse to trigger extrasensory experiences. Intelligent knowledge systems will be combined with robust computation capabilities to make humans endlessly more efficient and redefine how we live, work and take care of the planet. Even though there is still a lot of innovation in 5G with the Nokia Bell Labs has already begun the research work on 6G to make it commercially available by 2030.”

Mr. Shashi Dharan, Managing Director, Bharat Exhibitions delivered the Vote of Thanks. In his speech he said, “India is already moving beyond the deployment of 5G technology to create and install its faster and superior successor: the sixth generation of telecom networks, or 6G. The Bharat 6G Vision, is a strategy to create 6G technology in India by 2030. The objective of this vision is to create and deploy 6G network technologies that provide secure, intelligent, and pervasive connectivity, enabling people all over the world to live better lives. This might be a game changer for the Indian economy.”

6G and India: A Glimpse

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT)'s efforts in 6G standardization have successfully resulted in the adoption of ubiquitous connectivity, ubiquitous intelligence, and sustainability as the key elements of the 6G technology. According to Structure Research, the APAC data centre colocation market supported 10,233 megawatts (MW) of critical IT capacity in 2023, representing ~40% of the entire global market, and is projected to grow at a 13.3% 5-year CAGR to 19,069 MW by 2028 (or the equivalent of ~1,700MW of critical IT capacity added on average per year).⁽³⁾

Asia is at the epicentre of this growth and surging demand for managed data services. Data centre investment in a community spurs local public infrastructure upgrades and “job gravity”, attracting a skilled ICT workforce.

“As economies in the region accelerate demand for digital services through adoption of 5G, generative AI, IoT, and cloud computing, a clear and aligned vision for the role of digital infrastructure and data centres has never been more important,” said Jeremy Deutsch, Interim Chairperson of the APDCA.

The move to 22 nm will also open significant scalability for Series 3. IIITH Smart City Living Lab in partnership with Silicon Labs, a leader in secure, intelligent wireless technologies, today launched a campus-wide Wi-SUN backbone Mesh network at IIIT-H Living Lab supporting FAN 1.1 Specification as a continuation to Phase 1 launch supporting FAN 1.0 back in Sept 2022, to establish a reliable, reachable communication network to enable research and solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart cities easier. 

Wi-SUN is an open-standard protocol enabling interoperable solutions through open-source software with multi-layer security. Wi-SUN will enable utilities, municipalities, and other enterprises to deploy long-range, low-power wireless mesh networks connecting thousands of IoT nodes. The Wi-SUN network uses the unlicensed band with no additional network infra adds to the existing modes of sensor communications including Wi-Fi and LORA which allows sensors to connect easily to the cloud.

In Phase 2, Thirty more Wi-SUN router nodes have been deployed in the campus with nodes containing Silicon Labs’ radio - EFR32FG25 modules. All these nodes are interconnected through a self-healing mesh network and connected to a Border Router (BR) for backhauling the data to cloud. These nodes support Wi-SUN FAN1.1 specification (both OFDM &FSK modulation) that includes support of battery powered Limited Function Nodes (LFN) and backward compatibility to previously deployed FAN 1.0 nodes. OFDM support enhances robust connectivity as well as higher bit rates.

With the present deployment, more than 100 streetlights on campus are being controlled and a dense and steady Wi-SUN network is built covering more than 80% of the campus.

The FAN 1.1 extension to the Wi-SUN network at IIIT-H provides the ideal infrastructure to build and validate a multitude of Smart City solutions including water management, air quality monitoring, smart lighting, traffic management, energy management, waste management and many others. The launch of Phase 2 of the network is a significant step in enabling innovators to address the key issues in sustainable urbanization. Mr. V.L. Praveen Kumar, Director, HMWSSB also mentioned that the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply Board would be interested to try the feasibility of the Wi-SUN network deployment for water utilities in Hyderabad.

The Madurai-based A&T Video Networks, a pioneer in video collaboration solutions in India, entering its 25th year of operations, has recently bagged an order from the Government of Gujarat to supply about 65,000 smart classroom kits comprising its ‘Make in India’ digit conferencing cameras and headphones to 4,500+ schools across the state. 
 

A&T Video Networks Wins Order from Gujarat Government to Supply Smart Classroom Systems to 4,500 Schools

The order from the Department of Education, Government of Gujarat, is worth Rs. 11 crore - as part of its digital transformation drive covering its primary, middle, and higher secondary schools across the state. A&T Video Networks began the supply in January, and is expected to fulfil the entire order in March, 2023. 

The high-end video cameras, speakers, and microphones, supplied to the schools are designed and manufactured in its new plant at Arasanoor, a tier III town in Sivaganga District, South Tamil Nadu, strengthening the centre’s Make in India movement. The facility has the capacity to produce 50,000 video conferencing devices per month. In its first phase, A&T Video Networks, has achieved between 20% to 50% indigenisation, and provides employment to 18 engineers in addition to many contract employees and trainees, all from local communities. 

In his comments, Mr Ashwin Desai, Founder and Chairman, said, “We are extremely happy to have won the order from the government of Gujarat to supply our video collaboration products to all its schools and thus equip them to conduct digital and hybrid classes. It is a prestigious project for us.
