In line with the Prime Minister’s clarion call for ‘Make in India,’ Navratna defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) along with the MSME Development Institute of Bengaluru organised a National Vendor Development Programme and Industrial Exhibition on December 27 and 28, 2014, at BEL-Bengaluru.

The Government of India’s Central Public Procurement Policy makes it mandatory for all Central PSUs / Departments to procure a minimum of 20% of their requirements of stores / services from Medium, Small-scale and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs). This is a huge opportunity for MSMEs. The BEL programme aimed to help bridge the gap between the PSU and MSMEs.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr Manmohan Handa, Director (Bangalore Complex), BEL. The chief guest was Mr B H Anil Kumar, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of MSME, Government of India. Mr S Shiva Kumar, IAS, Chief Vigilance Officer, BEL, and Mr S N Rangaprasad, Director, MSME Development Institute, Bengaluru, were among the dignitaries on the dais.

Mrs Vandana Srivastava, Director, Directorate of Electronics and Information Technology, made a presentation. This was followed by a presentation on BEL by Mr Prahalad, Sr DGM (MS), BEL.

Mr Anil Kumar inaugurated the exhibition. A total of 33 vendors displayed their various products and services. There were stalls from MSME, NSIC and KSSIDC and three stalls from BEL Ancillary Units.

All the Strategic Business Units (SBUs) of BEL-Bengaluru exhibited their components / sub-systems / systems / products and services. The total number of visitors who registered for the event was 457, of which, 66 were exhibitors. Of the registrants, 300 were registered vendors and 80 were new vendors.

BEL strongly believes in indigenization and with its strong thrust on in-house R&D, has won several awards for indigenization and has several successful indigenous products and systems to its credit. MSME vendors can contribute by providing various components, sub-systems and services.
