Believers Church Starts Tailoring Units for Empowerment of Underprivileged Women to Become Financially Independent

• Tailoring Workshops for women; more than 35000 women trained till date

• Three new tailoring centers inaugurated in Dunda, Dugadda and Rudrapur tehsils of Dehradun district.

Every year thousands of women are trained and provided livelihood and skill generation training by Believers Church. Believers Church is committed to the cause of women empowerment and conducts workshops at the numerous tailoring units set up across the nation. Through this unique initiative more than 35000 women have been trained across India in numerous tailoring units that have been set up to provide skill and livelihood training to marginalised women.

Three tailoring units have been set up in Dehradun in Dunda, Dugadda and Rudrapur to provide tailoring workshops. The current batch strength comprises of 125 women. The drive is a part of the nation-wide exercise where the church has trained over 7000 women through 250 tailoring units in the past 6 months across multiple cities of India.

Deepak Badola, Municipal Chairman, Dugadda, Dehradun on his recent visit at the inauguration of the tailoring centres said, “Such initiatives that are being taken for women empowerment are commendable and give us tremendous hope for the future of these women. Some of our women live amidst the most difficult social and financial circumstances. Whereas the government always puts its best foot forward, such empathy from civil society creates exemplary model for everyone else to emulate.”

Metropolitan of Believers Church Dr. K. P. Yohannan said, “We believe that real growth in our society can happen only when the economy of individual families is run by women. We thus conduct many such skill and livelihood generation workshops for our sisters. Our aim also remains to integrate marginalised people and their families with mainstream society. We hope that by contributing towards making women financially independent we can build a strong and progressive nation.”

Fr. Paul Head Dehradun diocese said, “We endeavour through, our various initiatives to empower the lives of our brothers and sisters. Today two new tailoring centres have been set up in Dunda and Duggada. More such centers will be set up in Rudrapur and other tehsil of Dehradun district. This is one of the many initiatives that we have taken to provide a sustainable livelihood to the underprivileged sections of the society. We are hopeful that we will continue to encourage more and more participants in our program.”

Church’s numerous other programmes have benefitted thousands of children, women, leprosy patients and villagers in the form of sanitation drives, education, counselling, health camps, medicines, hospitals, shelter, rehabilitation and clean drinking water.
