Infosys Awarded LEED ‘Platinum’ Rating for M&C Building in Bangalore

Infosys now has 11 buildings that have garnered the prestigious ‘Platinum’ rating

Infosys, today announced that its new building in Bangalore (M&C Building) has been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) India ‘Platinum’ rating by the India Green Building Council.

 

The LEED Green Building Rating System is a globally accepted benchmark for design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Platinum-certified buildings at Infosys now cover about 3 million square feet of space.

 

Infosys has always been at the forefront of energy conservation, and creating eco-friendly green spaces. Infosys buildings are developed with an integrated approach to important aspects like sustainability, water efficiency and harvesting, energy and atmosphere, eco-friendly materials and resources, and indoor environment quality.

 

Key features of the M&C building in Bangalore include:

Energy efficiency: Wireless and battery-less energy harvesting sensors and switches are installed in the building to control lighting and the rooftops are painted white to reduce heat penetration. In addition, the windows are designed with day light and vision panels letting in more natural light

Efficient HVAC design: This is the first building in India to implement a radiant panel-based cooling system. The equipment used is of high efficiency and with variable speed drives to minimize energy consumption.

Water efficiency: Efficient plumbing fixtures and the use of recycled wastewater has resulted in 71 percent less water consumption than LEED standards. A membrane bio-reactor (MBR) technology-based sewage treatment plant has been installed to treat wastewater, which is reused for flushing, landscaping, and in cooling towers.

Building automation: The use of building automation technologies is used to continuously monitor, manage, and optimize building operations and ensure efficient energy use.

 

About Green Initiatives

Infosys has taken great strides during the past five years to become sustainable in its operations. The company is working to reduce its per capita electricity consumption by 50 percent from 2007-2008 levels and to source all its electricity needs from renewable resources by the end of 2017. Between 2007 and 2014, Infosys reduced its per capita electricity and water consumption by about 44 percent and 35 percent respectively. The company encourages employees to endorse sustainable practices that reduce their daily consumption of resources. Infosys Eco Clubs (employee driven initiative to endorse green practices) are passionate partners in these efforts. The company has over 3.5 million square feet of LEED Platinum rated and GRIHA five star rated buildings.
