Smt Maneka Gandhi, Hon’ble Union Minister for Women and Child Development Delivered a Spellbinding Talk as Part of Manav Rachna International University’s ‘SWAYAM SIDDHA-Celebrating Being a Woman’ Series

As part of the Women’s Empowerment series ‘SWAYAM SIDDHA - Celebrating Being a Woman’ organised by Manav Rachna International University, Chief Guest Smt. Maneka Gandhi, Hon’ble Union Minister for Women and Child Development mesmerized the gathering by delivering a thought provoking speech on the issue of Women and Child Development here at the campus today.

 

The programme which emphasized on ‘Being Empowered and Empowering Others’ was presided over by Smt Satya Bhalla, Chief Patron, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions and several senior dignitaries including Dr Sanjay Srivastava, Managing Director, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI), Dr N.C. Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor Manav Rachna International University (MRIU), Dr Upasana Agarwal, President, Sindhu Srijan, Dr M.M. Kathuria, Trustee, MREI, Dr Chavi Bhargava Sharma, Dean, FMS, MRIU, among others.

 

It is noteworthy that Faculty of Management Studies, Manav Rachna International University, has been conducting the month long ‘SWAYAM SIDDHA - Celebrating Being a Woman’ event as part of its continued efforts in creating awareness on gender sensitization among the youth in association with Sindhu Srijan, an NGO working on Women and Youth Empowerment. Since then, the campus has been witness to various activities and initiatives on women-centric issues from 12th February 2016 onwards. The programme’s grand finale will be celebrated on 8th March, observed as International Women’s Day.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Satya Bhalla, Chief Patron, MREI said, “Smt Maneka Gandhi is an inspiration for every woman. She has served the society and community with great dedication and effort. It is our proud privilege to have her with us.”

 

Addressing the gathering, Smt. Maneka Gandhi informed that cell phones in the coming months will be equipped with alarm buttons that would be connected to police stations via satellite to help people in distress.  Her announcement that every boy student who champions the cause of girls in his class would be made a gender champion and given a scholastic award was met with loud applause. Smt. Maneka Gandhi invited interested persons / NGOs to train at least 200 women in “amazing areas” such as organic agriculture, handloom or handicrafts to help them earn a decent livelihood. That apart, she spoke about the setting up of the Women Entrepreneurship Council by the end of the year. Her parting lines were: “Do unto others what you would want others to do unto you,” while speaking on the subject of empathy which she claimed was her mantra in life.
