Bar Associations of Delhi emerges runner-up

Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. (SAM & Co.) won the inaugural edition of Suresh and Bharati Shroff Memorial T20 Cricket League. Sent to bat by the Bar Associations of Delhi (BAD) cricket team, the SAM & Co. cricket team scored 137/7 in its designated 20 overs. In response, the BAD cricket team scored 128/4 in 20 overs, in a closely fought match.

Congratulating the SAM & Co. cricket team, Mr. Shardul S Shroff, Executive Chairman, SAM & Co., said “It is very fulfilling that the SAM & Co. team emerged the Champions in the inaugural edition of Suresh and Bharati Shroff Memorial T20 Cricket League. The team managed to keep its nerve in a neck to neck fight, after the match went down to the wire in the last over, and pulled off a stunning victory!”

Thanking all the participating law firms, Mrs. Pallavi S. It is heartening that the tournament was played with excellent camaraderie and sportsmanship, by all the teams. Going by the huge interest generated amongst the lawyers from across the country, I am sure this League will grow exponentially in the years to come, and emerge as the biggest congregation of the Indian legal fraternity.

 

In the semi-finals, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co beat AZB & Partners, and BAD beat Khaitan & Co., to reach the finals.

 

SAM & Co. will commemorate the successful completion of the inaugural season of Suresh and Bharati Shroff Memorial T20 Cricket League with a Prize Distribution Ceremony to be held in New Delhi on 20 April, 2018. Ms. Mithali Raj, Captain of Indian Women’s Cricket Team, is expected to grace the ceremony and present the following prizes:

 

a. Winning team - Trophy along with a team cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh.

b. Runners-up team - Runners-up trophy and a team cash prize of Rs. 25,000.

c. ‘Man of the Series’ - Cash prize of Rs. 50,000;

d. ‘Best Batsman of the Series’ -  Cash prize of Rs. 25,000;

e. ‘Best Bowler of the Series’ - Cash prize of Rs. 25,000; and

f. Winning team and runners-up team players: Individual Player Trophies

 

The Suresh and Bharati Shroff Memorial T20 Cricket League was launched in February 2018, as a part of the celebrations to commemorate the centennial anniversary of SAM & Co. Veteran Bollywood actress, Ms. Sharmila Tagore had inaugurated the tournament, and unveiled the rotating silver trophy at the Opening Ceremony of the tournament on 4 February, 2018 in presence of top Indian legal luminaries. The inaugural edition of the tournament included 15 matches, and eight teams. Besides SAM & Co. and the Bar Associations of Delhi, AZB & Partners, J. Sagar Associates, Khaitan & Co, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices, Dua Associates and Trilegal also participated in making the tournament a success.
