Cricketer Anil Kumble Graces Federal Bank’s ‘Speak for Kerala’ Initiative

The Grand Finale of Federal Bank – ‘Speak for Kerala’ student Debate, a seven month long programme, under the aegis of Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation, concluded in style. The programme was held at Gokulam Hotel and Convention Centre, Kaloor, Ernakulam on 19^th March 2015. Former International cricketer, Mr. Anil Kumble, was the Chief Guest at the function. 

Four students – Ms Sana Nazar, Ms Aryadevi R, Ms Meera Devi Chalisery and Master Anand Jayan  were the finalists and they debated on the subject “‘Make in Kerala’ should be the core focus for job creation in a densely populated state like Kerala”. Miss Sana Nazar, student of Federal Institute of Science and Technology, Kochi, the local favorite, was declared as the winner. She won the ‘Federal Bank - Kerala Youth of the Year 2015 Trophy’, a cash prize of Rs 50,000, as well as scholarships worth Rs 3 lakh. Miss Aryadevi R, of Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, came second.

“I feel like a tail-ender coming in to bat after four great speakers”, said Anil Kumble, when he came on to speak after the four semi finalists had debated on the subject. He went on to speak and said “This is the confidence of the youth that we see in all walks of life in India. You should also follow your dreams. Give importance to preparation and practice. We also see it now in the Indian cricket team.”  He urged the youngsters to not only be keen about their studies, but to engage in all sorts of extra-curricular activities, as it helps in the overall development of a person.

Mrs Safeena A N (Development Commissioner, Cochin Special Economic Zone), Mr R Balachandran (Chairman and Managing Director, SB Global), and Mr Johny Lukose (Director, Manorama News) were the jury members. 

Shri Abraham Koshy (Chairman, Federal Bank), Shri Shyam Srinivasan (MD & CEO, Federal Bank), Shri Raju Hormis (Head, CSR), board of directors of Federal bank, other dignitaries, and students from various colleges participated in this gala event.
