The Consulate General of Austria (Hon), in association with the Jasubhai Foundation, at a Press Conference yesterday on ‘Building Greater Trade & Cultural Co-operation between Austria & India at the Trident, Nariman Point, announced about a week long the Austrian Cultural Festival that will be held in Mumbai from October 24th to November 2nd. The cultural festival, aims to strengthen the cultural co-operation between Austria and India, will bring for the first time in the city a taste of the Austrian Culture.

At the event, Dr. Wolfram Moritz, the Austrian Trade Commissioner touched upon the trade aspect between Austria & India. The highlights of the Cultural festival include a Musical Concert by the Salzburg Chamber Youth Orchestra who will be performing at the Tata Theatre, NCPA on 28th October 2014, a traditional Viennese Ball that will be held on 30th October 2014 at the Trident, Nariman Point as well as the Austrian Food & Film Festival between 24th October to 2nd November 2014.

About this initiative, the Austrian Ambassador to India Mr. Bernhard Wrabetz who gave a key note address said: “The Austrian culture week will showcase Austria’s cultural, economic & intellectual splendor. I am very grateful to the Hon. Vice Consul General Mr. Maulik Jasubhai to organize it. I think it’s the right moment to come here . It offers a fantastic opportunity to present Austria and all its glory during one week through cultural events like Music, Food and the Viennese Ball which is definitely a social highlight. The Viennese Ball is a participative event so whoever wants to go there should be aware of the risk that dancing is infectious and it will be required by every participant in the Ball. You will see it is great fun. Just enjoy and experience a cultural manifestation which otherwise you would only find in Vienna.”

The Hon. Vice Consul of Austria Mr. Maulik Jasubhai shared his perspective and association with this endeavour by saying “There are many reasons to celebrate and create this large celebration this year. My father Jasu Shah who has been the Hon. Consul General of Austria for more than 35 years was privileged to receive the grand honor in 1993 with the Austrian Cross of Honour, highest civilian honour bestowed to any non Austrian for promoting Science & Arts . So for us it’s a great privilege, great honour and pleasure to be associated with Austria for more than three decades. Our association with Austria has some very fond memories from hosting the Vienna chamber orchestra, from doing several Viennese Balls. This is the third one. The Viennese Ball that goes back to many centuries of music, dance, festivities. Between the Austrian Food festival and Austrian Music festival we will be showing several Austrian movies at two or three locations in Mumbai. We have the support from the Embassy. So we welcome you to participate in this Austian week and we look forward to exchange of people and lots of fun.”

The Cultural festival will highlight the unique features of Austrian culture. Traditional dance, music and food will aim to inspire greater understanding of Austria and travel to the country. The festival will also showcase what Austria and India have in common, like the love for beautiful dance and harmonious music. It is a great opportunity for all music, dance and food lovers to be delighted by this culturally rich country.
