Modi to Come Back in 2019 Polls – BW Businessworld Survey

80 per cent of India as well as 80 per cent of corporate India believe that Modi is likely to come back to power in the 2019 Parliamentary elections.

69 per cent of India believes that Narendra Modi is India’s “best-ever Prime Minister”. In corporate India, the perception is stronger – 74 per cent of corporate leaders think Modi is India’s best-ever PM.

These are some of the key findings of two surveys commissioned by BW Businessworld -- a “mood of the nation” survey and a corporate India survey.

 

As many as 76 per cent of the respondents rate the performance of the Modi government at least “good”. AT least 83 per cent of Corporate India terms Modi’s first three years in power at the Centre at least “good”.

 

62 per cent of India thinks that the Modi government is well on its way of delivering on the BJP’s poll manifesto. The corresponding figure for Corporate India is 67 per cent.

 

52 per cent of respondents in the mood of the nation survey said that governance has “improved significantly” in the Modi regime when compared to the Manmohan regime. In the corporate India survey, 66 per cent of the respondents said that governance had “improved significantly” in the Modi regime when compared to the Manmohan regime.

 

The top five “most significant achievements” of the Modi government, according to the mood of the nation survey were – demonetization, power sector reforms, surgical strikes, GST, war on corruption and direct subsidy transfer.

 

The top five “most significant achievements” of the Modi government, according to the Corporate India survey, were GST passage, demonetization, power sector reforms, ease of doing business, surgical strikes and war on corruption.

 

Asked to name the top three PMs who contributed most in India’s development, the top three names were – Modi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Rajiv Gandhi. The top three names in the corporate India survey were – Modi, P V Narasimha Rao and Rajiv Gandhi.

 

The top five best-performing Ministers according to the Corporate India survey were – Piyush Goyal, Nitin Gadkari, Suresh Prabhu, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.

 

Both the surveys said, that Nitish Kumar could be one leader outside the BJP who could dislodge Modi one day. According to the Corporate India survey, in the BJP, Shivraj Singh Chouhan stands the best chance of replacing Modi one day.
