In an endevour to support thousands affected by the flood in Assam, Ola, India’s most popular mobile app for transportation, today announced a three-day on-demand donation drive for its customers in Guwahati. Ola has introduced a new category on its app called ‘Flood Relief’ which will enable customers to contribute non-perishable food items and clothes for the flood victims. The category will be live between 2 pm - 7 pm, from August 6th-August 8th in Guwahati. Ola has partnered with Red Land Brothers, a non-governmental organization in Assam, to distribute the collected items across all flood affected regions of Assam.

As a part of its efforts, Ola will also send veterinary doctors from Guwahati to Kaziranga to help Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) in its rescue and rehabilitation operation of all injured and orphaned wildlife, in and around Kaziranga National Park. Officials from WTI along with forest guards are working relentlessly to keep wildlife casualties to a minimum and rescue animals who do not have the strength to negotiate the calamity. Over 300 animals are feared dead by the devastating flood and adequate medical help is difficult to come by, given that most of the state is reeling from the natural disaster.

Kiran Brahma, Regional Business Head at Ola, said,Many people, including our driver-partners and employees, are bravely dealing with the calamity and trying to put their lives back on track. We also realize that precious wildlife in the Kaziranga National Park has been severely affected by the flooding. Times like these can be very trying for those in the midst of it, and we want to extend all support that is possible from our side as well as enable every one of our users to do their bit. We are proud to partner with Red Land Brothers and WTI in their efforts, and urge our customers in the city to extend their support to affected fellow citizens across the state”.

Speaking on the initiative Subhasish Das, IFS, DFO, Kaziranga National Park, saidWe have rescued 8 Rhino calves and a number of hog deers along with other animals till now, and they are undergoing treatment at our wildlife hospital CWRC. We welcome efforts of Ola in supporting our conservation program. Support in the form of Veterinary and food supplements etc. from Ola shall help us in furthering our cause towards rescue and safe release of animals affected by Flood. Kaziranga National Park management expresses heartfelt gratitude towards Ola."

Viky Pradhan, President, Red Land Brothers saidWith Assam reeling under one of the worst floods in recent history, there is a compelling need for the entire nation to come forward and help the victims through meaningful contribution. We are glad that Ola has come forward and initiated this collection drive through its app and we are confident that this will be of immense support to the affected flood victims. We also want to use this opportunity to call out other like-minded people and organizations to come forward and extend support in this time of distress”.

Ola has initiated similar initiatives in the past, the most recent being the Nepal earthquake where they introduced a promo code ‘Nepal’ through which customers could donate by recharging their Ola Money wallet. Ola handed over a sum of Rs. 35 lakhs towards the relief work being undertaken in the region, to the Hon. Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India - Shri. Nitin Gadkari, at New Delhi.
