Smart City Quote - Mr. Amit Modi, Vice President CREDAI Western UP and Whole Time Director, ABA CORP

“We welcome the initiative of the Government and are happy to note that the Prime Minister is personally committed to the nations infrastructure development  by officially launching these three mega initiatives (Smart Cities, AMRUT Cities and Housing for all by 2022).

Also important to mention that we believe that for the first time the grants being allocated for these initiatives over a period of the next 5 years, seem to be realistic and practicle, considering the size and scale that has to be achieved which indeed is a welcome departure from the fact that the earlier amounts being announced for national infrastructure development initiatives were largely insufficient.

Once these initiatives are actually implemented on ground they will also have an economic multiplier effect on the nations economy as a whole, since such huge infrastructure development initiatives will require a massive increase in production and manufacturing output of the country, and as a result also create humongous employment opportunities not just in the infrastructure sector, but also in manufacturing sector, due to all the  anclliary industries connected the ecosystem like Steel, Cement, wood, rubber metal even Fiber optics etc. This will help push up employability, with all skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workforce looking at new job opportunities as a result of a spike in growth in the supporting sectors.

But at the sametime, while asvision documents  these initiatives may seem amazing but in reality it will take a considerable amount of time before things begin to look up on ground level. The Government’s initiative on the Private Public Partnership model also sounds promising to the Private but the salient features of this model is still at a nascent stage and the blueprint has not been seen by the any of the stakeholders in question.

At present the country urban infrastructure is in dire state and even major metros like Delhi or a Mumbai, come to halt by seasonal moonsons in the country.

There is considerable amount of work yet to be done in the urban landscape of this country if it has to come close to the eventual vision of the Prime Minister, hence while we welcome these initiatives  announced, we would like to reiterate that implementation on ground will hold the key, and the industry in general will be closely watching the moves being made by the Government and policy makers in this area.”
