SBI Wins Golden Peacock Award 2014 for Sustainability in London

State Bank of India (SBI) has won the prestigious Golden Peacock Award for Sustainability, 2014. The award and citation was received by Dr. J N Misra, Dy. Managing Director & CDO and Shri Vinod Pande, General Manager, Corporate Communication of the Bank at a glittering function held at the Millennium Hotel London Mayfair on 29^th October, 2014.

The award ceremony was a part of the14th London Global Convention on Corporate Governance & Sustainability. The four day Convention was organized by the Institute of Directors, India with the theme “Boards to Lead”. Hon’ble Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry and Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs was the Chief Guest at the Global Business Meet held at the House of Lords, London on 28th October, 2014.

Dr. J N Misra on receiving the award for sustainability discussed about the two unique initiatives undertaken by State Bank of India to become a sustainable organization - SBI Children’s Welfare Fund is an employee volunteering initiative wherein employees donate to this Fund and each donation by an employee is matched by an equal contribution by the Bank. This is used as grants extended to institutions engaged in welfare of orphans, destitute, mentally/physically challenged and other under-privileged children. SBI Youth for India is a fellowship program for India’s best young minds to join hands with rural communities, empathizes with their struggles and connects with their aspirations.

The Award was given by the Rt. Hon. Theresa May MP, Secretary of State for the Home Department, Govt. of UK, in the presence of Rt. Hon Baroness Verma - Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Energy and Climate Change, Govt. of UK, Lt. Gen. J S Ahluwalia, PVSM (Retd.) - President, Institute of Directors, India, Rt. Hon. Sir Richard Needham - Chairman, Golden Peacock Global Awards, Chairman Advisory Group, Stern UK and Vice Chair, NEC Europe and the Rt. Hon. Shailesh Vara MP - Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Justice, Govt. of UK.
