Arthroscopy was started in India in Mumbai for the first time in 1979 through Dr. Pravin Vora who was trained by Dr. Dinesh Patel, Dr. Robert Jackson and Dr. M. Watanabe. The major impetus to the spread of arthroscopy in India occurred after the formulation of Indian Arthroscopy Society on 1st January 1983 with the eleven founder members under the guidance of its Patron Dr. Dinesh Patel who had then came to Mumbai to conduct arthroscopy workshop and give live demonstrations. Dr. Pravin Vora was entrusted to draft it's constitution which was adopted in May 1983. Subsequently in 1985, the Indian Arthroscopy Society was formally registered as a Society with the registrar of the Societies in Mumbai.
