83,000 College Teams from Across the Globe Compete in TCS CodeVita Coding Challenge

IIT Hyderabad wins TCS CodeVita Season IV Title

15 teams from India, Peru and Slovakia vie for $10,000 top prize

All 30 finalists given provisional offers in TCS

 

Tata Consultancy Services, (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, announced today that more than 83,000 college teams from all across the globe competed in the fourth global coding challenge for students, CodeVita.

 

Two-person student teams from India -IIT Hyderabad and D. J. Sanghvi College of Engg Mumbai along with University of Charles, Prague won the top three spots respectively after a hard fought contest held at CMC Auditorium, TCS Synergy Park, Hyderabad last week.

 

TCS CodeVita, is a contest for engineering and science students to experience the joy of coding and to sharpen their programming skills through real-life computing practices. The contest also aims at identifying the talent, besides providing the student community, an opportunity to earn peer recognition. TCS is promoting learning though fun and contests like CodeVita as programming is becoming the skill for future and provides a fast gateway to technology career.

 

This year’s CodeVita witnessed 197,639 registrations from 3708 colleges.Out of this 83,000 teams made it to the phase 1 and the top 15 teams from this moved to the final phase of the contest. The Top 15 teams who flew to Hyderabad to compete in the Grand Finale included 12 college teams from India, one team fromSlovakia and 2 teams from Peru.

 

Ajoy Mukherjee, Executive vice president and Global Head, Human Resources, said, “Going digital is no longer an option for all of us, it is the default. For students the ability to leverage on technology and building applications to provide solutions becomes significantly important. Global contests like TCS CodeVita provides a great platform for young students to kindle their creativity and promotes conceptual thinking in an engaging manner.”

 

All the 30 finalists have been given provisional offers from TCS. 

 

The team comprising Adarsh Pugalia and Shalin Shah from IIT Hyderabad bagged CodeVita’s 1st prize of $10,000.  The team from Kunal Kukreja and Monik Pamecha from D. J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, Mumbai, walked away with the 2nd prize of $7,000, while Jana Batoryova and Jakub Dargaj from University of Charles, Prague bagged the third prize of $3,000.

 

In a closely -fought marathon finale which lasted over six hours, the 15 teams solved coding problems and algorithms in a highly gamified environment which tested the competitors’ technical knowledge, their ability to execute and implement computer code in a structured setting as well as their speed, agility and creativity.

 

This is the fourth consecutive year that TCS CodeVita has taken place. The coding challenge is now considered among the largest competitions of its kind for students anywhere in the world.  In the 2015 edition, more than 197,000 students from across theglobe registered for the event as against 130,000 students in the 2014 edition.

 

The event was covered live on twitter with 4294 tweets with #TCSCodeVita. With the Season IV coming to a successful closure, CodeVita Season V is now open for Registrations.
