The British Council is organising a job fair ‘UK India Career Summit’ in Mumbai in partnership with Sannam S4 on Thursday, 29 January 2015 at Taj Lands End, Mumbai from 9 am to 5 pm.

Interested participants can register for the summit by visiting the website- and be a part of this exciting opportunity to interact with officials from leading companies all under one roof.

The one day exhibition will witness participation from leading companies from India and the UK that are looking to engage with prospective employees. These include some large blue chip companies in sectors such as Consulting; Banking and Financial Services; Engineering; Real Estate and Media with a focus on new media technology. The companies will be looking for candidates with a background in Finance with a particular focus in Investment Banking; Engineering; Metallurgy; Political Science and Conflict Resolution; Public Administration, PhD in Geophysics/Physics/Applied Mathematics/Computer Science; Metallurgy, Optical Fiber; Telecom Networks Technologies and Glass Technologies.

Commenting on the initiative, Kumar Iyer, British Deputy High Commissioner Mumbai & Director General UK Trade and Investment India said, “The UK-India Career Summit launched by the British Council presents a tremendous opportunity to connect recently graduated and successful UK alumni with top employers who are looking to build and strengthen their talent pools. I hope to see more and more bright Indian UK alumni to take advantage and benefit from this opportunity.

Sharon Memis, Director, British Council, West India said, “We, at the British Council, are committed towards UK returned alumni in India and will continue to connect them with initiatives that help further their professional progress and success. The UK India Career Summit will offer young graduates the opportunity to meet highly-experienced Human Resource managers, talk to representatives from top firms, share their resume and speak to professionals about career options.

The British Council’s ‘India Employability Survey 2014,’ provides insights into emerging employability trends that will help universities prepare graduates for opportunities in an increasingly globalised world. The report highlights that foreign university graduates score favourably on several parameters by top employers. In addition, the research shows that over 60% of firms hire only from the global top-50 universities, of which close to a third hire only from the world’s ten best institutions. A very-substantial 41% of all companies have hired at least one foreign-university graduate in the last two years.

The UK enjoys a global reputation for excellence in the field of education and skills. Four of the world’s top six universities are in the UK and it is home to 30 of the world’s top 200 universities. A recent QS global survey of 27,000 graduate employers showed that UK degrees are highly valued by employers worldwide. Graduates from Oxford and Cambridge were rated the most employable in the world, while London School of Economics, Imperial College London and the University of Manchester all made the top ten.

In an endeavor to attract talent from India, the British Council has announced the GREAT Britain Scholarships – India 2015 worth almost 1.51 million pounds (approx. 151 million rupees) to further empower students to pursue their ambitions of studying in the UK.
