The British Council today successfully concluded its one-day job fair, ‘UK-India Career Summit’ in Mumbai in partnership with Sannam S4. The summit witnessed participation from 500 UK graduates from India, across varied sectors who utilised this opportunity to interview and network with key corporations in India.

The daylong event saw an overwhelming response from UK graduates and alumni not only from Mumbai but across different cities in India. Reputed Corporates including AXA Business Services Pvt. Ltd, Ernst & Young LLP, Mahindra, Alstom India Limited, British Council and Sannam S4 amongst others presented the participants with exciting and challenging career opportunities across sectors including Consulting; Banking and Financial Services; Engineering; manufacturing and human resources. In addition, the summit saw participation from companies such as Gozoop, the Centrum Group, Michael Page, Knight Frank, Datum Group, Sterlite Technologies and the Dalberg Global Development Advisors.

The summit proved to be an ideal platform for leading companies from India and the UK, looking to engage with prospective employees through one-on-one interviews and networking opportunities with talented UK graduates, eager to build their careers in India. The companies were looking for candidates with a background in Finance with a particular focus in Investment Banking; Engineering; Metallurgy; Political Science and Conflict Resolution; Public Administration, PhD in Geophysics/Physics/Applied Mathematics/Computer Science; Metallurgy, Optical Fiber; Telecom Networks Technologies and Glass Technologies.

Hiring foreign-university graduates is an integral part of the talent strategy for a large percentage of companies. British Council’s ‘India Employability Survey 2014’ highlighted that foreign university graduates score favourably on several parameters. For instance, they are found to be better prepared for a job, require lesser training, and stronger communication and critical thinking skills.

The UK enjoys a global reputation for excellence in the field of education and skills. Four of the world’s top six universities are in the UK and it is home to 30 of the world’s top 200 universities. A recent QS global survey of 27,000 graduate employers showed that UK degrees are highly valued by employers worldwide. Graduates from Oxford and Cambridge were rated the most employable in the world, while London School of Economics, Imperial College London and the University of Manchester all made the top ten.

In an endeavor to attract talent from India, the British Council has announced the GREAT Britain Scholarships – India 2015 worth almost 1.51 million pounds (approx. 151 million rupees) to further empower students to pursue their ambitions of studying in the UK.
