Esri India promotes GIS adoption in India

Launches mApp Your Way 2016 for college students

Esri India, country's leading Geographic Information System (GIS) Software & Solutions provider, has announced the second edition of mApp Your Way 2016, an App Development Challenge. The challenge is aimed to provide a platform to the institutes and students to showcase their skills and capabilities in the GIS technology.

 

Instituted last year, the mApp Your Way App Development Challenge, is open for all the students (UG/PG/Research scholars) associated with the institutions that are users of Geospatial / ArcGIS technology. Participating teams will be given four months to develop the app on Esri’s ArcGIS platform on themes spanning across education, health, retail, transport, energy and environment and government projects. These apps will then be judged on the uniqueness of the problem statement, innovation, citizen impact, usefulness and ability to be scaled for larger use.

 

Commenting on the challenge, Agendra Kumar, President, Esri India said, “GIS technology now plays an important role in all walks of life. Through this initiative, Esri India will familiarize students with GIS technology and help them understand its benefits better”.

 

Mr. Surya Durbha, Associate Professor, Centre of Studies in Resources Engineering, IIT Bombay said, “It is good to see the growing interest in the academia about the impact of GIS technology on a variety of challenging real world applications. The mApp Your Way challenge provides a great opportunity for the youth of India to create solutions that would help in dealing with some key societal issues."

 

Worldwide more than 350,000 organizations use Esri software and these include two-thirds of the Fortune 500 companies as well as more than 7,000 colleges and universities. Esri applications are currently running on more than one million desktops and thousands of web and enterprise servers. Esri India is already playing a pivotal role in addressing some pertinent national issues such as water shortage, resource mapping and sustainable development across initiatives such Digital India, Swachh Bharat and 100 Smart cities.
