Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India

International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad is hosting the 14th Building Simulation Conference of IBPSA (BS2015), first time in India. The conference scheduled to continue till 9th December, 2015 is aimed at advancing the research & practices in various disciplines of Building Energy Analysis and Performance Simulation and is all set to cater to the likes of people working or learning about the field of building performance including building designers, architects, sustainability managers, researchers and developers.

Speaking at the conference, Prof. Vishal Garg, Conference Chair, Building Simulation 2015 & Head of Center for IT in Building Science at the IIIT, Hyderabad said, “To support the implementation of Building Energy Codes and to design high-performance buildings, simulations will play a crucial role. In the next 15 years, a large number of new buildings would be constructed in India. Need of the hour is to immediately expand the use of energy simulation for designing energy efficient and high performance buildings in India. Presence of experts from all over the world in this conference offers a great opportunity for Indian practitioners and researchers in networking with the best in this field.”

Also speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, Secretary, Information Technology, Electronics & Communications Department, Government of Telangana said, “India has a lot of opportunity for Green Buildings and Hyderabad has taken the lead in setting up India’s first Platinum Rated Green building and also taking up the initiative in retrofitting existing buildings into Green Buildings. Building Simulation will play a major role in government’s initiative of developing smart cities.” He also invited delegates to share their inputs and thoughts on how this mission can be achieved.

The conference will have multiple sessions and workshops for the delegates covering a wide spectrum of topics like Building Physics, Passive Model Building, Solar Energy Utilization, Energy Storage, and Optimization among others.

Mr. Padu Padmanabhan, Former Program Director of the South Asia Regional Initiative for Energy Integration said, “India is the 5th largest in the worlds in terms of energy generation capacity, which is close to 250,000 MW. We need to work on both sides of the energy equation that is supply side and demand side, to bring down the emissions. Presently there is a huge gap between the demand and supply, which is predicted to increase further in the business as usual scenario. Efforts are currently being taken to increase the supply of energy. It is mandatory that we need to bring the demand under control. One of the ways to do this is to design energy efficient and high performance buildings, besides using renewable energy wherever possible.” He highlighted that this conference will be useful in meeting India’s commitment of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Ms. Vanitha Datla, Chairperson, CII Telangana & Mr. Raghupathy, Executive Director, CII-IGBC present at the conference added that, “India has grown tremendously in the field of Green Buildings. With one building in 2003, we are standing at over 3.14 billion sq. ft of registered Green Building footprint, registered with IGBC. Today, India is the 2nd country in the world with largest registered footprint. Also the expectations from the building sector are to reduce the energy consumption by 80%. In this regard, building simulations play a major role.”

This conference envisions in giving it participants a perfect learning platform as it includes talks by eminent speakers, workshops and paper presentations among the other listed programmes. Over 350 delegates from across 40 countries of the world are attending the conference and around 275 research papers will be presented across the four days.
