With its focus on ‘Vision Maharashtra – Housing for all by 2022’, Realtors apex body NAREDCO (National Real Estate Development Council) will host a day-long housing conclave on April 22, 2015 in Mumbai.

Chief Minister Mr. Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the conclave which will discuss the issue of affordable housing for the masses in Maharashtra, while trying to offer solutions for achieving the ambitious goal of providing shelter for all by the year 2022. KPMG in India is the knowledge partner for the event which is expected to attract over 600 delegates.

Several Ministers including Ministers of Housing, Revenues, Finance, Industries, Environment and Forest and Public Works Department are expected to address the conclave and present their respective departments perspective of the government’s sated objective.

NAREDCO national president Sunil Mantri said: “We are delighted that the Government is earnest in its resolve to finding a solution to the housing needs of the people. We expect to deal with the amended development rules which we feel must attend to the common man’s dream of having a shelter of his own. We developers are more than willing to partner with the government to achieve the goal of housing for all by 2022.”

Arvind Mahajan, Partner and Head, Infrastructure and Government Services, KPMG in India, stated, Maharashtra annually contributes about 10 lakh to the urban population of India which is more than 10 per cent of national level. However, the urban population in Maharashtra is highly concentrated in the western region, specifically in Mumbai, Pune and Nashik region. These three cities together account for more than 50 per cent of Maharashtra’s urban population. For the state to continue on the urbanization path, it is important that it undertakes significant expansion of its urban boundaries, ease hurdles affecting real estate development and promote affordable housing development in the city of Mumbai.”

The conclave will address various issues in order to overcome the housing deficit in the State and strategies and action plan to augment supply of housing stock especially targeting the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Low Income Group (LIG) segments of society.

NAREDCO is under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.

Several corporate honchos from the construction and urban infrastructure industries, urban planners, top developers, private equity firms, housing finance companies and banks will also join to share their thoughts.
