India

National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) is thankful to the Government of India, for bringing forth India’s concerns on the H-1B visa to the United States and getting an agreement with the US government to hold a discussion on the elements required in both countries to pursue an India-US Totalisation agreement. We also thank the Government of India for providing assurances on intellectual property issues, providing a stable tax environment, and promising to make India one of the top 50 nations in terms of ease of doing business. The POTUS’ visit as the Chief Guest on the Republic Day, should be seen as the cornerstone to enhance the partnership between the two nations; providing companies a conducive investment & business climate in India. NASSCOM welcomes President Obama’s announcement of $4 bn Indian Diaspora Investment Initiative for boosting trade and investment ties with India. This visit will go a long way to strengthen the Indo-US business relationship and build an inclusive ecosystem of growth for the Indian IT-BPM industry. President Obama’s acknowledgement of India's importance in the global business environment and promises made by him to improve the trade ties between the two countries will foster a bullish business environment. His views on sustainable development and streamlining regulations for Indian companies in the USA, will provide the much needed boost to the industry.

Earlier, NASSCOM had requested that the Prime Minister discuss the matter of immigration and visas for Indian IT professionals, along with the long outstanding issue of moving forward on getting a Totalisation agreement as they adversely impact bilateral trade between India and the US; it is heartening to see that this was one of the core topic of discussion between the two leaders . NASSCOM is also glad that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, used this visit to showcase India as an attractive investment destination for American enterprises so that they could participate in his 'Make in India' vision.
