Pearl Academy Pearl Portfolio 2017 - School of Creative Business and School of Design

  • School of Creative Business from Pearl Academy hosted the event where over 200 graduating students showcased final submissions

  • Over 275 graduating students from School of Design showcased some of the most innovative and ingenious design project

  

Pearl Academy, India’s leading institution in design, fashion, creative businesses and media showcased path breaking ideas of more than 475 students from its School of Creative Business & School of Design at Pearl Portfolio 2017 in New Delhi. Pearl Portfolio is the annual graduating event of Pearl Academy where students from the graduating batch showcase their work to the industry. Eminent guests of honour at the School of Creative Business were Mr. Jayant Sinha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Padma Bhushan Dr. M B Athreya, Indian author, educationist & management advisor. This Portfolio of ‘School of Design’, not only showcased the work of 275 students from the graduating batch but also held ‘Design Conversations’ with industry experts and design professionals from different creative industries.

In School of Creative Business portfolio the event witnessed presentations by students on the unique business themes such as ‘innovation in children's wear’ and ‘creative marketing strategy for the millennials’. The event also hosted a thought provoking panel discussion with industry experts on the ‘effects of demonetization on the fashion and luxury business’.

The School of Design portfolio saw two panel discussions underlining some very relevant subjects in design education that will enable young design professionals to design their career paths. The first panel comprising of A Balasubramaniam, Founder Director, January Design; Akshat Bhatt, Principal Architect, Architecture Discipline; Anuj Prasad, Founder & CEO, Desmania; Sanjib Chatterjee, Architect; Karu and Naveen Verma, Creative Directors, Appster discussed Expectations of the Design Industries from Young Designers which deliberated industry expectations from young designers in various aspects of business. The second panel discussion included renowned designers and writers such as Nikhil Paul, Lighting Designer, Paul Matter; Abhimanyu Nowar, Industrial Designer, Kiba Design; Manish Gulati, Founding Partner & Principal Architect, M: OFA Studios; Nitin Tiwari, Editor In Chief, Creative Gaga and Shiny Varghese from Indian Express. This panel put the spotlight on another relevant subject - Indian Designs, Global Ambitions and touched upon questions such as how are Indian designers perceived globally? Both the panel discussions were thought provoking and were well received by the audience.

 

Appreciating the bright ideas from the students, Mr. Jayant Sinha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation said, “I am delighted to see the student work and their creative business ideas. The creative business and luxury market offers huge potential for these students to be successful in their chosen domains. This generation of budding entrepreneurs is thinking about building a global size business and have those benchmarks. It is important to plan scalable business ideas to succeed. I am sure with the brilliant training and education that you have got at Pearl Academy,  you will play a significant role in what we call as making of a ‘New India.”

 

Students with outstanding projects were also felicitated at the event. Shelly Shukla a student of Interior Design & Styling has prepared a model for an institute that will provide students suffering from Autism with a relaxing and calming learning environment by using the four basic elements of nature. Student from Interior Architecture and Design, Raunaq Nanda designed a concept for adaptive re-use of a water tank structure as a crafts museum and retail space.

 

As design educators we work in the realm of great possibilities.
