About Project Udaan

Millions of people in rural India are deprived of the benefits of modern-day technology because they cannot afford access to it. Enactus students at Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies created Udaan to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural India. By setting up computer centers in these areas, the venture aims to promote skill development and awareness of economic opportunities. The team employs women to operate the centers, helping to overcome the gender gap as well.

Impact: 15 computer centers established using e-waste; 30 entrepreneurs created; an average 9 percent increase in school performance at the elementary level.

What’s Next: Plans for 2018 include expansion to an additional 30 villages. Ultimately, the team wishes to explore a business model operating under the Government of India for replication across the country.

About Project Raahat

The mission of Raahat is to eradicate open defecation and provide safe sanitation in urban slum communities by innovating in management of community toilet complexes and sensitizing people on good sanitary practices. The project works on three tangents to eliminate open defecation in any given area - Operational Management, Sensitisation and Community Based Approach. Operational Management, implemented as the first leg of the project, improves the overall user experience and creates value for the slum dwellers. It is followed by Sensitisation which brings a sea change in the psyche of the community through the use of mass psychology and aesthetic modifications. While the former two generate need and value in the minds of public, Community Based Approach creates a sense of ownership among the people - who ultimately regard the complex as their own property to be used and cherished by all in harmony.
