New Delhi, Delhi, India

To celebrate Children’s Day, Telenor India plans to conduct a student outreach programme to spread awareness around life insurance among school students. Starting 15th November, Telenor along with its partners, Shriram Life and MicroEnsure, will launch a unique initiative to educate students on the importance of life insurance.

Telenor employees across all circles will distribute pencils to students and give them leaflets explaining benefits of life insurance for a family. As part of this unique initiative Telenor will reach out to over 30 lakh students covering 4000 schools across 237 towns. This activity will kick-start from 15th Nov and will continue for the whole of November creating awareness on life insurance across different schools.

Speaking on the initiative, Sharad Mehrotra, Chief Executive Officer, Telenor India Communications said, “It is imperative to create awareness among mass market customers around life insurance. As a socially responsible operator, Telenor aims to extend the benefits of life insurance to them. We believe children are the biggest influencers in a family and can contribute immensely in educating their parents on the importance of being insured. We are confident that the event will help us cascade message of financial security to their parents and enrich their lives beyond just connecting them to a mobile network.”

Manoj Jain, managing director, Shriram Life Insurance said, “Telenor India has proved to be a catalyst in our efforts to extend the benefits of life insurance to the socially weaker segment especially in rural areas. With this unique student outreach programme, we will reach to a segment of society that has avoided getting insured due to challenges like long documentation process, premium amount and uncertainty around claim settlement process. The free life insurance offer combines a traditional financial product with the reach and technology of a mobile operator to make it simple and easy for the customers.”

Telenor Suraksha is a first of its kind initiative by any telecom operator in India launched last year in collaboration with Shriram Life Insurance and MicroEnsure to offer free life insurance. This was introduced for Telenor’s existing as well as potential customers across its six operating circles. Telenor Suraksha has already enrolled more than 24.5 million customers. Customers can avail the Telenor Life Insurance absolutely free by simply maintaining a minimum average recharge per month. The maximum life cover under this scheme is Rs. 50,000 per person.

Telenor Suraksha scheme doesn’t require documentation and is easy to opt for. Telenor Suraksha promises to settle the claims within seven days, which is a unique and differentiated benefit to customers. More than 200 families have already been compensated under this scheme across India.
